Pixel_Star Alright, so it finally happened it seemed, Skype for me no longer officially works on my computer, It's dead. So if I've been invisible for a little while that's why, it simply doesn't even start at all, for everyone who uses it to keep in touch with me I apologize for that, I probably won't be using it either for a while, or ever again, not that it was terribly great anyway. I've spent a few days trying to get Skype to work and I'm done trying now, I promise I'm not ignoring anyone, sometimes this kind of thing happens. :c
That aside, I'm looking into a nice alternative that either can run a Skype account without running the client, or another program which offers similar features, or at the very least allows me to call people both in groups as well as one-on-one, in addition to your usual standard fare IMing. For anyone who knows of any services that offer these things I'd be happy to know please!

As for alternatives, my personal preference is XMPP, but few people use it. It allows for voice and video on many servers (there is no central XMPP client or server), but due to how decentralized it is, it tends to be a bit too daunting for most people. If you do want to try it out, I suggest Jappix.com
Sadly, outside of Skype, XMPP, and Google Hangouts, there are few reliable centralized services that offer both voice and text IM. Steam offers them, but I find it to be very unreliable with voice chat. I do not know if XFire is still available, but that may be an option as well.
In fact, I'd even say this works way better than the standalone Skype on my computer, It's super fast and smooth, wow! so we'll see if this will continue. :3

I have quite a few IM accounts. Only skype for voice though.
Have you tried installing an older version?
I installed 6.21 again after the update to 6.22 because I couldn't deal with the catastrophe that was its interface.
