A Spoiler-Free Review of "Ant-Man"

To be honest, I had a few doubts on this movie. It had received good reviews, but not quite the ones that GOTG had gotten, and it was trying to sell a character that only the fanboys and fangirls knew about. But I am here to say, that this is my favorite movie of the year so far. This was better than Avengers: Age of Ultron, and it was as good as Mad Max: Fury Road. I just liked this one a touch better. Here's why...
If you've read my previous journal, you know that I'm an unabashed lover of 3D movies. If I'm going to see a movie that's playing in multiple formats, it's always going to be seen in 3D. And I have to acknowledge that Ant-Man has the best usage of the 3D format that I've ever laid eyes on. You actually feel like you're as small as Ant-Man in this movie. This was no half-hearted attempt at throwing out 3D in this movie, they went all-in, and does it ever show. If you have a choice in seeing it in regular format or 3D, provided you can afford it, splurge and see it in glorious 3D. It's worth it. Oh God, is it worth it.
As you've probably heard, this is a heist flick, and I never realized how much I enjoy the genre. I'm definitely going to have to check on more movies in this niche, because I truly enjoyed the setup. Not only a heist flick, but it's also about family, and they created a lot of tension when family was put into the line of fire towards the end of this movie. I generally don't sweat for anything, and I noticed I was sweating after I walked out of the movie. Few movies can do that to me, and this is one of them.
Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll. All of the main actors nailed their parts well, and the supporting actors as well. Not just a tense film, there's a lot of humor in this as well. Without question, one of the funniest movies Marvel has done yet.
And lastly, the two post-movie teasers. One sets up a new Avenger, and the other sets up the next Captain America movie. You will need to make sure and stay for both of them. They're very important.
Two thumbs up! Way up. I'll definitely be going back and watching this a second time in the theaters. The 3D visuals alone demand it, but it's also just a fantastic movie.

being my father's live in caregiver makes it so i don't get to visit the movie theaters anymore, as much as i'd like to
