How do the worst people in this fandom, people who joke about rape, are openly transphobic, homophobic, bully others and act like entitled snots for no reason, have a fanbase?
I know someone who has openly denied someone's gender identity and demanded someone who identified as gender fluid to "show them their genitals", and bullies and attacks artists for not giving them free or cheap art, and yet they have 500 followers.
A certain fursuit maker who's made horrid fursuits that have actually injured people, scammed people out of hundreds of dollars, and lies about cancer and people who passed away being their friend, has a huge following of adoring fans.
A certain dancing fursuiter constantly treats their own friends like shit, demands money, and insults the fandom as a whole, but they have a huge following of friends.
People beg for money on GFM for fursuits, and idiots actually give it to them, while at the same time, someone in the fandom who reaches out because they're about to be homeless, or struggle with medical bills, and they get nothing.
This fandom is welcoming alright, welcoming of bullies and assholes, as long as they do good art or have a cute fursuit. Or sometimes just because. I don't even see how some of these people have a following, because literally all they do is act like dicks.
Disappointing.

theres a good amount of gems to be found but as a whole it definitely gets wild, in the quest for acceptance a large amount of people are being excluded and silenced anyway XD
I think I big part of it is the internet though.
But I honestly can't figure it out.
It's something I've noticed past the furry fandom. It's everyone.
It's part of being famous.... but yeah... It makes no sense to me either.
Why does a fandom comprised of people who are tired of being stereotyped against constantly stereotype others?
I could go on myself. The answer is simple: It's a shit fandom. Granted, the people aren't necessarily shit in it, but as a whole, it can be more toxic than a poison dart frog.
Tldr: people are just fucking idiots these days.. People have no respect for other people's privacy anymore especially the new younger people. Always gotta be up someone's ass.
I totally agree with you though.. I love who I know and trust like you and several others but I try and avoid the rest like the plague. There's just no trust anywhere anymore it seems like :/ makes me sick. And people wonder why I'm not even as active as I used to be talking wise.
The more time I spend in this fandom, the more I hate it. I don't like having to shovel through miles of dogshit to find the few rare diamonds amongst it. You're more likely to drown in all of it before you do find them, regardless.

You just have to dig through all the nasty shit first.
As long as they make or do something that people like then they typically don't care about their other actions. That and usually if you're one of the people that speak out against whatever it is you're doing you're just being an ass. Which is a large part of the reason I tend to stray away from everyone and keep my mouth shut anymore.
