Opinions about formally uploading my commissions somewhere~
    10 years ago
So, as I'm sure everyone knows, I've gotten an awful lot of commissioned art in my day, (and still do every now and then) because I have mental problems.
I always felt it a bit inappropriate to upload them to my person FA gallery, as I draw my own stuff sometimes, and I didn't want to double-dip the artists' views, nor eventually draw more attention than them (I also find it personally annoying when I favorite a re-upload from a commissioner, and not the submission by the actual artist.) That said, someone discussed something with me recently that I hadn't though about -- that it could be used to kinda help gain more publicity for some smaller or lesser-known artists, since the reality is, some people know more about me through my commissioned art than they do about some of the artists I've gotten work done from... That, and some artists I've commissioned straight-up just don't upload commissions at all, so.
So with that in mind, I'm trying to think of what might be a good way to go about it. Some way or place to upload maybe 1 or 2 pictures a day, as to not flood the system. I still have my public Dropbox folder where I routinely upload and tag everything by filename, but that doesn't do much to help the issue addressed above, since actual submissions would contain descriptions and links and all that jazz. If FurAffinity only had different submission categories like every other furry art website, it would be a no-brainer as I could just set up a separate folder for all the works done by other artists, and keep my own gallery intact. Of course, there are other websites that I could do this on, too, like perhaps InkBunny or Weasyl or some such thing, since they do have that functionality. Or maybe even make a Tumblr for it?? I'm not sure if I really get Tumblr though so I dunno.
Not sure if I'll go through with it, but just welcoming thoughts and feedback~!

I tend to upload other users' art involving my bree for that same reason, to help give more exposure to the artist in question by ensuring to link back to them. Plus I kinda do like keeping such art in one centralized place. Call me a vain bree, I guess.~
I also try to keep them separate from my own written works, so I eventually decided to simply put my own works in Submissions and works of others in Scraps. Hardly an efficient solution, but it keeps them relatively secluded and it doesn't spam the site's frontpage/tagsearches since posting to Scraps only alerts watchers.
The only other solution for FA I've seen is to make a separate account for commissions/gifts, but I find that less appealing than the former.
And there's always using other sites if you want to, of course. (Although this could make crediting/linking the original artists a bit more difficult.)
When I fave something, I give priority to faving the original, and will often fave the copy on the commissioner's account as well. After all, one created it, and the other probably had the idea for it. Without both, that art might never have been done.
Every once in a while, I find something where the artist is never mentioned, and I can't figure out who the original artist is. That's frustrating.
It's interesting that you start to worry about this stuff just now - if it worked out with dropbox until now, maybe just continuing like that is the other possibility.
But... Can the internet handle so many stripes and masks?!
(Typos, because I'm on a phone)
(I was going to say, Weasyl, but, yas, you covered it. Also, scraps and link back to the original but, yas, Qwazzbutt covered it too~)
