Ooof... not the greatest of weekends for me; our dog, Shady, fell ill. (warning, some blunt details ahead) He started vomiting Saturday afternoon, which is unusual for him. He's a big black hunting lab, and in the 6 years we've had him, I think I've only ever seen him throw up once. Not long after he did, he went and had a big drink from his water dish, then minutes later, threw that all up too. We gave him half a gravol (safe to give dogs) to calm his stomach, and he slept for a while (he'd already been pretty lethargic that day, also unusual. He seemed to avoid food. Later that night before bed, he threw up again, and in the time between, started having diarrhea. He was let out at 3am, and then my mate was up again at 7am to use the bathroom - all clear. When we got up at 9am though, the dining room was a mess - he had thrown up four more times, and exploded out the back end too. >_< Sidenote; that is a really harsh way to start the morning.

My folks called as usual on a Sunday morning and we talked a bit until part way through Shady (who had tried a little bit of water) threw up again, and this time it looked like there was a hint of blood in it. We had already been saying we should get him to emergency, and that was it - I ended the call with my folks and decided to get him there right away.

Problem is that London's got like one 24/7 animal clinic and it was busy - sadly, there were a lot of emergency life-or-death situations going on with dogs, and it was almost 4 hours before a vet could finally look at Shady. :( During that time he was pretty down; no more explosions, but then, there was nothing left in him. They did an X-ray on him and Blood-test. Both showed no major issues, but the X-ray showed he did have some gas in his intestines and the blood-test confirmed he was getting dehydrated.

They put him on an IV to re-hydrate him and give him meds since he couldn't keep stuff down, and had to keep him overnight. Yesterday we got multiple calls to update us, and we went to visit him at the end of the day - he was doing a lot better, but they still were doing tests to see if they could determine what was wrong. The most likely thing was some sort of food-poisoning. He treats the back-yard's wild plants as a giant salad (he is a lab, after all) and who knows - one bit of fungus on a leaf could have done it. Detecting food poisoning after the fact though is nearly impossible. Instead they're trying to rule out anything more serious. They wanted to keep him at least another night, poor guy.

So today the news so far is that the tests are coming back pretty positive. The only possible concern is his cortisone levels, which they're doing another test on to see if his adrenal gland is producing enough properly or not - if not, it's very treatable. The good news is, he'll be set to come home tonight once I'm done work. ^_^ Poor guy is going to be so glad to be back, even the cat seems to be missing him (though also enjoying the fact he can sneak out and misbehave without the dog there to stop him). XD

I'm glad he looks like he'll be okay - there's nothing worse than watching your friend suffering and not being able to do much. :(

Why: Because face-full of Renki sole! Yup. Snownsurf's the lucky one here in my opinion for getting to have his muzzle buried in Renki's awesome big sole and toe pads. It wasn't until the second time I looked at it that I noticed Renki's Tail-maw. O_o Erm... handy thing, I suppose! But seriously, part of the charm here is that Renki is such a nice guy, and he'd be very happy doing this kinda thing for them. This is an update of an older image, but oh my - SO worth showing again; Major's gorgeous Sphinx character. This is just one of those character designs were you just look in awe at how much thought and attention to detail has gone into this lady. She is absolutely stunning no matter where or what you're looking at, but of course, when you're eyes fall to those hind footpaws... WOW. Major does incredible paws, and these are among the finest in his gallery.
