what's the difference between quarts and mechanical movement?

Quartz are the newer movement watches. Pretty much every run-of the mill alarm clock or wrist watch has been quartz for a few decades. They're the electric/ battery operated ones. Mechanical are the wind up ones. I mean yeah, a mechanical pocket watch had to be wound once a week, but at least it didn't cost anything to wind.

oh I already knew about the quartz thing, I was just curious about the differences ^^;
