General Question: What constitutes a "Popufur"
General
I know some people don't like the word. I've never minded it because to me it doesn't just mean "popular". It seems more to say, someone that is popular primarily in the furry fandom. So Ursula Vernon is a popular artist and Tanidareal is a popufur. I also don't take it to mean anything particularly negative, in the same way celebrity doesn't even tough some think of celebrities in a very negative light.
I've been thinking though, how do other people see the word? So tell me netizens. How do you define it? What is a popufur? How do you know someone is one? Is it number of watchers or something easily tangible or something more?
I'm not looking to argue or fight about it, just looking to know everyone's point of view for curiosity's sake.
My personal view. Like I said I think it's someone popular with the fandom. Generally I think of popufurs as those with at least 10k watchers, though such a thing does not strictly tie to FA watches, just in general it seems to.

FA+

And I always just saw it as just a cringeworthy way of mentioning someone is well known in the community for whatever reason, lol.
On the one side it is simply a popular, or well know furry. Any furry that at a convention a large group of people, who aren't already acquaintances with said popufur, would recognize him/her. This version is usually used by someone else discussing said popufur. The said popufur is also usually popular for having a specific skill set or personality trait that many people like.
On the other side is the more narcissistic version, where someone claims themselves to be a popufur, in an effort to make them self more important or more liked. This type of popufur puts too much importance in being liked and doesn't spend as much time developing a skill set.
This is just my interpretation. I feel that the word can be either positive or negative, but it all depends on the context.
A fur that stabs U-shaped balloons for a hobby?
A fur that's a dad & uncle?
The definitions are limitless. :P
that being said, i don't think it's a bad thing at all the be "popular" or "popufur" in the fandom. It means you've done something that's gotten alot of peoples attention. Just like it's not a bad thing to be a well known youtuber like Markiplier or Jacksepticeye. Or even Vine Famous. Being popufur can be in many different categories, being popular for your art, dancing, or even your suit. It's what you do with the "popularity" that makes people dislike the word, or perhaps a bit of jealously has a part in the bitterness toward those who are more well known. It happens to every person who gets well known, hate pages and everything. Its a scheme for attention really, and they target those who have the attention they want. Being well known for something is really nice and i think you should just be yourself and if part of yourself is what people like and spread around that makes you well known then by all means where that "popufur" shirt if you want to.
To answer the question more simply, popufur, to me, doesn't seem so bad. Just don't abuse that and expect attention. I for one follow many popular artists and dancers and have no problem saying how much i love their art or what they do. I'm a very honest person and tell you when i like something you do, no matter how much i wish i could have the same skills or outgoing funny personality.
Unfortunate but a little true sometimes
You can also count the number of stalkers you have, multiply by a factor of 9 and you have your 'Popufur Rating'.
For instance...
Sanita Squirrel: 2 Active Stalkers X 9 = Popufur rating of 18
*The above is a joke and not meant to be taken seriously*
Good for those girls for being organized :).
1) It can be a Fursuiter, Artist, Photographer, or music artist that has a massive amount of views and fans talking about him
2) A word that furries use to describe a furry that they talk about the good things he/she did.
3) Totally opposite of the 2nd list. Most furries use that word as an insult to a furry that they think looks like a cool person, but turns out to be a egotistical, greedy, manipulative, lying, teasing, and be clique to their kind.
At first all Popufurs are the same. However, it did took me a while that they're not all the same.
