I might be done writing for now, but that doesn't mean my fingers aren't itching for exercise. Since I've never done something like this before, I thought I'd give it a try! Ask me anything about macro, scalies, or life in general. I'd be happy to give you some juicy answers ^_^
What makes a macro really stand out as erotic to you?
Are there any kinks you wish came up more often in stories similar to yours?
Picking a dragon as my "character" just seemed to mesh well with my personality. Reserved, lonesome, narcissistic even :-P I like to think of western dragons as the living embodiment of the seven deadly sins, lust, pride, gluttony, etc. And playing the bad guy is a lot of fun! My interest on this site tends toward the exotic, anyway. I'm more interested in spiders and orcas than foxes and wolves, ya know? Dragons (in everyday life, at least) are far outside the norm.
2) Hmm. That's a tough question. I've heard plenty of good answers given by others before about what appeals to them most. But unlike many my greatest passion lies in unaware. I like unaware macros, prey macros, and, for lack of a better word, twink macros. The ones you normally wouldn't expect to be giant. So I suppose the idea of "the little guy" getting revenge is erotic to me. In addition, a world-destroying titan doing it without even noticing has to be domination taken to the extreme. That turns me on very much. I also like scenarios where sex among giants is destructive. Like a juxtaposition between creation and destruction? Two at the height of their pleasure, utterly dominating creatures beneath them as they orgasm? Hot.
3) Painting broad strokes here, but unaware. It's not explored nearly as much as it should be. I can think of plenty of scenarios, like malls, schools, parties, that would be a blast to write an unaware story about.
Gear is one that's pretty niche. You know my love of the sandal, the skate shoe, the boot. A clothed macro every once in a while could be interesting. Maybe some kind of uniform.
Sadistic macros. Certainly a darker side, but like macros who would stomp for clicks on YouTube.
And mega macro. Not like universe sized, but maybe big enough to put a city in a teacup (get the reference?! XD)
The first type of opening is a quote. I did this in the story "A New Kind of Treat" off the top of my head. It's an easy way to grab someone's attention while only having to write one sentence
To pull the reader in perhaps you want something shocking. "You're going to die." Something like that keeps me going, because you build suspense. You as the reader are thinking "Woah, what's going on here? Gotta keep reading to find out." right off the bat.
You could also create a mystery. "Do you want to see something?" "Look what we have here." You hold a little bit back from the reader to keep them begging for more.
The second type of opening describes a scene in an interesting way. Take, for example, the following: "They sat side by side in the lecture hall, copying notes." Kinda boring, wouldn't you agree? But "Their pencils danced nervously, waiting for the buzz that would signal the end of their torture" is much more intriguing. Make full use of your arsenal as a writer. I used metonymy and personification there - basically substituting "pencils" for "students". Some onomatopoeia to describe the end of period tone, and a little hyperbole by describing a class as torture. A word of caution here - don't go overboard! I did this in "Infestation," and I'm warning you now! If every sentence is like "the midnight black ink flowed like a river across the page as a paw pushed it dutifully across," your reader will get overwhelmed.
I suppose humor works too, if you're good at it. I tried something like this at the beginning of "The Mission", where a piece of paper flies up into Tegon's face and blinds him. If you can make someone laugh from the outset, you have them hooked!
As for general tips, I'd say this. A lot of dialog can look like this:
"Hello," the dragon said.
"Hi," the wolf replied.
And it's boring! How do the characters feel, what are they doing with their bodies? Try something like this instead.
The dragon smiled, recognizing a familiar face amidst the crowd. "Hello." He waved his paw to get the wolf's attention.
His friend looked up, pulling out an earbud. "Hi."
As a reader I have a much better picture in my head.
Finally, if you're writing a macro/micro story, make me care about your characters! Give them characterization, a personality. Don't make everyone the same, too. Maybe one guy is quiet, another loud, like in "The Vacation". If your tiny is a blank slate I won't really care who stomps on them. Character development is also nice too. How does your character adapt to being small or a giant? How do their experiences shape them for the future?
Sentence variety was also a thing I focused on quite a bit too, along with many other stylistic language devices such as alliteration, metanoia and some assonance. Humor is also a thing I ain't the best at, I relate to many examples in past books I've read, but not everyone has the same sense of humor. I enjoy black humor usually more than regular humor; one of my favorite novels based on this concept would probably be, American Psycho. ^^ Either way, I really appreciate the advice, and I'll be sure to keep it in mind for when I begin writing again this August!
Mind if I also ask, how long have you been writing for? Stories that is. :3
To answer your question, though, I never really did any creative writing until I wrote my first story called "Perspective" here in early 2013. I put way more work into that (several weeks) than any story since, and you can see how short it is! But I got a lot of practice in the mechanics of writing in school. AP in high school, scientific and research papers in college. And I was a voracious reader of macro/micro stories for years before that. Mostly stories on here by Rogue and neopuc, two excellent people to study. There was a lot of macrophile content on Writing.com that sadly has been lost to the mists of time. LavaDomeFive is another good repository. Might I suggest Diablo the Rex's Dras stories and RP logs? That should be sufficiently dark for you.
I've actually read a few of his, and I must say: they were pretty fucking awesome! :D I'll check out Writing.com, and LavaDomeFive when I get the chance~
I really appreciate the help! :3
By the way, do you mind if I add ya on Skype? I enjoy getting to know others, so long as I don't frustrate them xD.
Apologies for the late reply.
Micro - shark, rex, any big cat
Yeah the nice thing about paws and footwear is that they get so much use that you can think of the most interesting little landscape features for them.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11118973/ This will forever be my all-time favorite commission. It encapsulates everything I love about macro in one image.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16750773/ This will be second.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10646315/ I fell in love with the way
Though, I think this one takes the cake:

That statement can be taken literally considering the cake piece you commissioned .
Plus, it's Lolita, which was written by a Russian author, if it is Russian, I am obliged to be interested in it.
The supremacy of reptilian beings is, in fact, a right
Not the "the little mouse got revenge on the big bad guy that mistreTed her and got shrunk down"
But rather the macro has a specific or rather positive affiliation thorward the micro, and in fact would have been dreaded if he stomped it unaware?
I can have a few examples the main two of which are roomates of argent and it's only forever mr exilo? (Could put links here if you like)
Second question would be if it's a possibility you start writing a chapter based/ more than solo stories based micro/macro with q progressive characters and plot?
Third question is would you tell about your furry side to your family? Would they not really care or might even be so shocked that they sever connections? . Sometimes our in real lives doesn't apear to be connected or even remotely effected by the furry side.
Last but not least question.
Do you believe you'd stay active in the community or actually remain a furry as your life progress?
Would it always be a part of you that is important to you to be integrated your older years or some passing fetish thing until life kicks us hard?
Thanks in advance, I'll return to lurking in the corner now.
There's also the opposite, like at the beginning of Neopuc's "Here There Be Dragons," where the macros would be thrilled to know what they're unknowingly doing. I prefer straight up unaware where the macro is not really good or evil, but just a normal joe.
To a degree you're talking about gentle macro/micro, an area that I'm sorely yearning to explore more. You might have noticed my earlier stories were much more violent. I've mellowed out since then and think gentle giants are very worthwhile to write. In fact that's what I love reading the most in my friend Argent's stories. He does it very well.
2) Yeah, definitely a possibility, it's just a matter of whether or not I think I can keep an interest in the overarching plot. I suppose that also means I can publish shorter chapters more frequently, so that would be fun. Something like that would probably involve Tegon, and with that I suppose I could create an official universe for him to live in. I'm always looking for a challenge to get me outside of my comfort zone and that might be my next step. My interests genre-wise lie in science fiction, so the chapter-based stories would be along those lines.
3) Pfft, already have! Not the macro or paw stuff, obviously, but I've shared the character of Tegon with them and they love the whole furry thing. I remember being realllly nervous about first sharing, which I had to do because I had to let them know what I was doing when I was going to my first Anthrocon. But when they saw all the nice fursuiters, the positive impact the con has on the city, I think that really made them feel comfortable. If "furry" had a worse rap like it did a decade or so ago I might still be doing all this in secret. Hell, my mom has a partial suit of her own now so I think I made the right decision!
But I don't like to let my furry side affect my real life in any other way. Tegon's Tegon and I'm me, if that makes sense XD
4) I've been back and forth. When I've had a run-in or spat with someone on here, there have been times where I think "fuck it." On the whole though I've met more people and been more social than I ever have in my life. By the end of this year my goal is to have my very own fursuit, so that will at least keep me here into 2016. Plus macro/micro has really always been at least a small part of my life, so it would be difficult to leave the best macro community behind. In the end I think I will, because there will always be that occasional flash of inspiration to share with people via story some situation that I think is really cool ^_^
