I Have Overstepped My Boundaries (RP Partners Read Please!)
Arm is feeling better already, but I still have to stretch the muscles occassionally. While I'm free with it, I'm going to be up front with you all.
I'm bored of the Jurassic Ring RP. Each one has to start the same, and with 16 different species of dinosaur, it'll be a while before the action picks up across 3 different RP's. I wanted to do a more story and dialogue driven RP, but naturally my audience is here for the boxing. I need a break from going fight to fight, and that's why I'm going to do this:
For those of you who have RP'd this story with me, I'm offering you the chance to make your character the heroine in a multi-chapter story created by me, involving the same plot. If you've RP'd with me, you know I can at least write a decent story if I am motivated, and I am for this, because I need a little break from roleplaying rumbles. These dinosaurs were created for this, as a matter of fact. I just had to realize that roleplaying is not the same thing as creative writing. Creative writing is a process that requires one person to be able to craft a world with words. Roleplaying is a tool two people use that's (In my experience,) a lot less about writing something good and more about writing something fun, though if you're serious about it it's a tool for making characters too.
So then, the contest, for anyone who has participated in the RP so far (And is NOT in the RP illustration category!), Is a simple one: I need a name for the "unknown" dinosaur, which we all know by now is the Indominus Rex. I haven't thought of any good names for her, so I need the input of you. Whoever I choose gets their OC of choice to be the main character for the story, and, time forbidding, because I now have less than a month before I go back to school (And I have RP's to illustrate,) at least one illustration per chapter. The winner will also get the image of their OC standing over the I. Rex when she's revealed. And for those of you who don't get picked, you'll get a character sheet for any one of your original characters. Just like the dinosaurs.
I'm sorry I've been so indecisive with this, as it takes up your time and you were probably enjoying what I had going on, however when you have to try to create the same story 4, 5, 6 times over and your job is to hold the other person's hand through it, it gets to be not-so-fun, especially when trying to make it unique, which I have only been able to do so once because of there being a backstory within multiple RP's.
I feel guilty, but at the same time I can't keep giving you half assed attempts to just have less "N's" at the top of my page so I can go back to playing games. I'm going to give one full assed attempt, and then I'll be ready to have some fun again. Sound like a deal? :)
Peace and Love, 5aq out!

I suppose I should have explained that a little better.
The way the whole thing was set up you gave us really only one choice. Rush to the finish to get the pic because you said the first to finish got the pic, rather then the one who made the best rp. The difference is, you put a time constraint on us and when you revealed the fights, it was like oh shit, got to rush to the end to get the free pic RAWR FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT! Of the 4 dino's I fought, I got the personality of two, the compy who was a masochist, which I learned due to exposition on your part, and the hard headed on that was stubborn that was once again established through more expositional use rather then revealed naturally. Also with the fighters not talking, they were basically video game characters to be used, abused and taken down.
When setting up a story like this a couple of things to keep in mind. You want to give the player enough creative freedom to do what they want when they want, but also to give them choices and options that let you control the narrative flow. For example, with all the fighters in containment, we never got to see them or even really get to know them as more than stand up knock down fights. Had the girls been walking around, chatting it up, or even been in containment cells where you could talk and interact with we might have been more inclined to go discuss with them.
Beyond that introducing us to other people on the island other then Ross would have been helpful. It is obvious that he was a bit of a clone of the Indian fellow from Jurassic World and I kind of already saw that and John Hammond to boot, so two sides of the same coin really.
For an example on how to create a memorable character in a DnD game I ran. I made one shop keeper super creepy, I mean like he must be the devil kind of creepy, knew lots of dark lore and just gave off a vibe of just pure evil. The players remembered him, and came back to the same town several times just to check up on him to make sure no evil was taking place. Eventually he followed them into a dungeon and they met him on the way out to learn that he gets his goods and swag from following adventurous into dungeons to collect the stuff they miss, or to scavenge their dead bodies. They were so intrigued they worked for the guy for a while. A simple he just seems super evil but is really nice is a way to hook people while you try and figure things out. But since he took the time to speak to the players while they were buying they got the creepy vibe, and everything blossomed from there. Since the most we got out of our fights was orgasmic moan, not much to build on there.
Finally my point through all of this, is the set up wasn't bad, but you gave the player too much control. Had you wanted to stop the fights it was a simple. That is all for today ma'am. We shall begin again tomorrow. Yes I know you wish to continue but I for one want to eat and I shall not take no for an answer, and you shall not refuse as I believe I can think of a million reasons for you to say yes and join me. Little things like that with Ross showing off his wealth and his overall outlook on life. Since he was a Masani clone, there wasn't much for me to get invested in so no real reason to talk to unless kind of forced too as seemed to be needed here.
Now onto the naming bit. Hmm, couple of ideas.
Blanca, pretty easy as she is a big white dino but nothing really wow about the name to be honest.
Branka, similar to blanca but not quite as cool.
Alicain, I like as it sort of sounds like pain and alone combined a bit with an extra letter thrown in.
Fre'ka, just a play on words for freak.
Tarana means torn which kind of fits her.
Reix, respelling of I. Rex
This one, more a fact she doesn't feel she belongs so has mostly lost the idea of singular self.
beyond that I can't really offer up more then some generic name ideas for the character. If you want something a little better, I need to know her personality, physical description as well as just an overall idea of who she is. Outside of that hope I was a bit helpful and this is in no way an insulting comment or meant to tear you down, more offering advice on how to be better at this in the future.
My biggest issue, personally, was that there was a story to all of this that I couldn't explain because it was "Fight fight fight." However I am the only one to blame for that, honestly. You're right though, I gave too much control to the player, and therefore wasn't able to explore any aspects of the story, which you would find some things are a little deviated from Jurassic Park, however I guess now you'll just have to read the chapters to see what my intent was.
Now then, onto the name. The animals are, for the most part, derived from how they were in the films. Indominus is no exception. She's Sekhmet the Spinosaurus, except she's even more insane and bloodthirsty. The dial was cranked to 11 when trying to create something a little more "exciting," because of reasons to be explained. But yes in short she's a psycho bitch, lol.
Well then, I think we have a winner. Of course everybody here wins something for your participation, but your character shall be the protagonist of the story. If you'd prefer to do business over notes then send me one, but all I really need from you is a character bio, what you'd expect your character to do, how they would act, etc.
out of those three i cant pick myself, thats up to you really, cause everyone has great names and its up to you to pick which you like, either way, we all should see it as fun for naming this Indominous Rex for you. i hope the contest goes good for you
