Recounting RMFC 2015
I know always that I am an outsider; a stranger in this century and among those who are still men.
RMFC is over for me now. I probably should be using this time to unwind, but I'd like to get my thoughts down while they are still fresh in my mind. Just need to get my schedule out so I can reminisce.
FRIDAY:
Left home around 9 AM. Took exit 198 and ended up driving around confused for a while. Managed to get back to the freeway and drove the last mile, which was silly, because I could have taken DTC Parkway through to the hotel. Still, managed to get there in time to pick up my bag of swag before the Opening Ceremonies. Filmed that, then stuck around for the Guest of Honor Panel. Ate my packed lunch afterwards, then I think I was in the Dealer's Den for a while. Did a bunch of browsing, and bought a
darknatasha print. Was thinking of going to the Fursuit Performance panel, but didn't. I guess I just ended up wandering for a while. I think I browsed the Art Show for a bit. Not much ended up catching my attention, though. Caught the How to Run a Successful Panel panel at 2, which gave me ideas for panels I could run next year. Stuck around there for the Nutrition and Furry panel. Was going to stick around for the Sex Ed for Furries panel, but didn't feel like it, so wandered instead. Ended up in the Art Show again, and placed the first bid on one of the charity copies of the RMFC board game. Also bought the 3 Day Parking Pass some time around here. Went to the Making Your Characters Furry panel afterwards. Pretty sure I've been to that panel before, but it's still fun to get a refresher. Went to dinner next. Had Pad Thai at Noodles and Company with a Pad Curry on the side and iced tea. Came back for the Writing Adult Fiction panel. Decidedly interesting, though I doubt I'll be coming up with any adult fiction in the near future. Went home after that. Did run into some friends over the course of the day and got some photography in.
SATURDAY:
Got up early and had breakfast. Think I got out the door by 8 AM. Was definitely at the convention by 9 or 9:30. Went to the Art Show. Not surprisingly, but there had been a higher bid on the board game, so put in another bid. Hung around for a bit until the Dealer's Den opened. Purchased some books and comics from Sofawolf Press, Furplanet, and Rabbit Valley and some prints from Michelle Light. Also got the expansion to the Nordgaurd game. Went to the Breaking Into Games panel afterwards. Quite interesting there, and I'll be looking into Backflip Studios in the near future. Afterwards was the fursuit parade. Ended up getting a pretty good spot for that, so the video should be quite good when I'm done looking over it. Interestingly, my camera almost ran out of memory filming that. Had to upload stuff when I got back home, then wipe everything that was on the camera. But after the parade was lunch. Then back to the Dealer's Den. Commissioned two badges: one from Ian Jay, plus one from Dattas 3D Printing. Attended the Ancient Anthropomorphism panel next. Was very informative. I wasn't aware that anthropomorphism extended back quite as far as it did. Sat in on Khord Kitty's Debut Concert after that. That was pretty amusing. Would love to see more comedians and musicians performing at RMFC in upcoming years. At 4, picked up my completed badge from Ian Jay, as well as one I had ordered before the convention from
chaostudios. Hung around for a bit, plus went back to the Art Show to find that both copies of the board game were going to voice auction. So put in a bid on a print that actually was kind of interesting to me. Caught the Consistency in Writing panel afterwards. That gave me some ideas about something I would like to write, or at least thinking about how to keep it together. That panel got out kind of early, so went home after that for dinner. Ran into some more friends and got some more photography done, so not a bad day either.
SUNDAY:
Again, got up earlier than is normal for me. Had a kind of fancy breakfast, though. Got out, but had to fuel up before getting on the highway. Got to the convention, and hung around in the game lounge until the Dealer's Den opened. Looked around a bit. Sat in on the Worldbuilding and Cartography panel. Feel like I've also attended this one before, but still interesting. Went to the Art Auction afterwards. Nothing interesting to me during that. Was just sticking around for the Charity Auction. Was hoping to get one of the copies of the board game. First one shot up pretty rapidly and stopped at $100, more than I was willing to pay. Second one started st $40, but a bidder shot it up to $80. Tried to get it for $90, but same bidder pushed it to $95, which was more than I was willing to spend. Probably for the best that I didn't get it, since it kept me closer to my budget for this convention. Plus the game probably would never have gotten played if I had got it anyway. Had lunch after that. Stopped in at the Dealer's Den to get a print from
shinigamigirl and also bought a copy of Yarf! Volume 2. Found out later that the badge I had commissioned from Dattas had been completed around this time. Could have got it, but didn't know because they contacted me via e-mail, which I couldn't check during the con. Will have to get in touch with them about shipping, I guess. Still, partly my fault for not checking while I was there. Got in line after that for Buyer Checkout. Managed to snag the one print I was interested in, which was fortunate, because wasting 45 minutes in line for nothing would have been very aggravating. Went to Free Can Cook afterwards. Was pretty emotionally drained by that point, so didn't care about getting a ticket for a chance for free food. The show was interesting. After that, wandered a bit, caught a bit of Furry Feud. Ended up at the Town Hall Meeting, mostly to get a good spot for the Closing Ceremonies. Filmed that, then headed home. Got some photography in as well.
Well, overall it was a good convention. Didn't get nearly as much photography in as I would have liked, but I never seem to. Also, I didn't spend as much time with people I know as I thought I would. I don't know. I like doing things when I'm at RMFC. Just hanging out with people seems contrary to that. Maybe if I could have afforded a room, I could have spent more time with people. Just wasn't in the cards this year. Though it did mean I managed to avoid the fire alarm incident on Sunday morning. Also, I managed to stay much closer to my budget this year. Although, if I count sales tax, I went over it just slightly. Still, that's better than previous years where I overspent by significant amounts. But yeah. Looking forward to next year's convention, which I'll hopefully be able to attend.
Pictures and video will be up once I sort through them and figure out what is good enough to keep. Which may be tomorrow.
