I once read a story about a man who dies in a car accident, and goes on to meet God shortly afterwards. He tells the man that all of humanity is actually one entity, that lives and dies and is reborn as another person in some other time, until they've lived a lifetime as every person that is, was, and ever will be. I always loved this thinking, even if it's not what I believe. Personally I think that at the moment I'd death, the moment when you'd be the most worried about what is going to happen, your brain will create a mental landscape in accordance with what you're imagining. That is to say, whatever you believe will happen will happen in a way, at least it will seem that way. Kind of like how you dream about whatever you were thinking about, except this dream feels like it's going on forever when in reality it's only a fleeting thought.
