*** Very recently my grandmother was called by a person claiming that I was arrested for a DUI in New York and that they needed her to send money for my bail. This was a scam I have never been to New York nor would I have been caught dead driving drunk
This is a Money gram scam that preys on older people by claiming to be related to them.
So I feel the need to post this PSA so this doesn't happen to anyone else.
1. never wire a stranger money.
2. Ask questions (Example: Which grandson? How much am I sending? and Who can I call to verify this?)
3. Always get the full story and Verify it with numbers gotten from a phone book
4. If it is a scam report the Number if caller ID picked it up, Report it to Money Gram.
This kind of scam just makes me sick because it's preying on senor citizens like my grandmother.
Please spread the word of this scam so other grandparents don't get scammed like this again.
