Why/how did you become a furry?
As you may be aware I'm still quite new to the fandom. I always find it interesting to discuss what captured people's attention and imagination to join the fandom in the first place, what it is they like about it and why they stay. I'd like to hear the same from my watchers and passers-by that might read this journal. ^v^
Saying "becauase pron" is a legit answer
Bonus Question: Why did you choose your fursona?
It's only fair I start...
For me it's the art.
I remember stumbling on images of anthro art some years back and thinking "that's actually pretty nice" and actually saving a fewo pieces of it. (I still have some of the very first furry images I saw saved). From there I started to take a bit of an interest. Fast forward a bit and I remember having a bit of a dragon craze, looking up art and again noticing some anthro art. I decided to look into this a bit and discovered furries.
Through that I discovered everything about them, fursuits, conventions the likes. I found FA, made an account a few years back and have now started to take a serious plunge into the fandom. The rest is history. (And can be seen in my first journal). Perhaps not the most interesting story but a story nonetheless.
As for my fursona, I love birds. I considered a dragon or gryphon but decided normal bird is the best for me. The actual species of bird was because jays are pretty and corvids are smart, and it helped me stand out~
So what about you? :>

FA+

Eventually I got involved in more drama than I could handle (Or rather it got involved with me) and so the safest thing to do was effectively start over again. An artist I like happened to put up a gryphon adoptable around that time and, well, I had to get her. *Giggles*
As for why a gryphon? I always thought they were under-represented. Everyone was a fox or a dragon or a wolf or a cat, there were almost no avians of any kind. Half of the guild was made up of dragons and other creatures at that point.
So gryphon it was and I am not sure I could effectively be anything else at this point. It is just so much a part of me by now.
I originally wanted a red-tailed hawk as my fursona, but then I read corrvo's story "The Southwinds" and got an interest in a corvid fursona. I was torn between a blue jay and a crow, I decided in the end that a blue jay would be my fursona ;)
I also began drawing when I was little a whole lot of (very poor) animal people and weird creatures which eventually got refined into more anthro art and fantasy art. I spent a long time of my life no knowing there was an actual fandom for this until someone in the internet pointed it out to me! I took a look around and realized I had always been furry without actually knowing it haha. Been in the fandom for about 8 years more or less.
As for my fursona, I used to have a RP character that was half human half dragon (literally IRL myself but with horns, dragon feet and a dragon tail) when I began getting more into the fandom I realized I needed a fursona and simply changed all the human bits to wolf! And honestly she still looks really cool to me haha.
