Call it a vent of some kind but I need to get something off my chest.
I've been having ideas lately of, instead of having another boring summer with nothing much to do or at my hands, I want to go see people. Abroad.
Now I've been to the United Kingdom before, but I've really put my thoughts on the United States this time. However, the biggest trouble is, ofcourse, money. I might have the funds available, even just barely to cover the entire country (west coast is more expensive to reach than east), but that is only for the trip there. I would need a place to crash, and while I did put my mind on some few individuals, I would feel kind of guilty. Afterall, they will have to make sure there's enough food, a bed to sleep and whatnot available for me, while the only thing I did is 'getting there'.
Second and most importantly is that while I can go and spend all my funds on, say, three weeks of USA, I don't know how much will be left for me for the time beyond. Like college and such, when the new year starts.
Anyway, money is being a big let down again. The UK is rather affordable for me to go, but still. I love travelling. And I'd love to see more of the world, going beyoooond anything.
Hmm.. I suppose it would be very rude of me to ask for something like donations. I mean, anyone who offers me money won't see any of it back, except for the knowledge I just might be able to visit the States, and receive a thank you email of some sort. Yet I do wonder who would be so willing to do that.
*Sighs* I don't know. What are your thoughts? Should I just try to forget about the USA and focus on something else? Or do you know something I don't that might just make it work?
Comments are very much appreciated =] Thanks

Well, I can't really do something for you... Do you have american friends who could host you during your travel and also help you financially ?
I'm not sure about your situation (though you mention college), but I'm a sophomore engineering student and money's particularly tight and everything is so shifty right now. I would love to study abroad, yet this would cost money and set me back in my [supposedly] 4 year plan because no matter where I go engineering in English is limited. Traveling, meeting people I know online, and learning new languages is a dream I have, but I'm putting it off until I'm out of college and in a mostly stable job/situation to do so.
If you're traveling to America, you mentioned having to rely on people for food and shelter. I'd say plan it out and see how many people would actually be able to provide, and if it looks promising on both sides to go for it. Otherwise waiting (or opting for a closer/less expensive trip) might be the best choice for you and them.
Honestly, a road trip of the US is up high on my agenda, but like you said, money is the biggest stumbling block. If you can afford it, do a mini-tour of Europe, alternatively hit one of the coasts of the US (I love the look of the east coast, Chicago, Philly, New Orleans and all that). Or you can come over to the UK again and get rained on :3 I say if you can afford to do your preferred option, even if its only just, then do it. It'll totally feel like it was worth it.
I agree with Deko though, if the money is the issue and you really want to go see the US, I would recommend seeing one coast at a time. If seeing the east coast will be cheaper (heeeey I'm on the east coast!) then by all means do that one first, and save up for the next summer and you can go to the west coast. I think the west coast would be better to see during cooler seasons, and if it were up to me I would definitely visit Colorado, as it has mountains, dunes, all sorts of scenery. =) At least on the east coast you can see the mountains as well.
I really would love to travel myself but like you, I dont have that much money, and I'm scrapping the dirt to have enough for the convention just an hour away from me.... so. I would also recommend going to Florida (and for heaven's sake take me with you!) and visiting a beach not far from Jacksonville, its off of Amelia Island and I love it to death =)
Rambling Meko is done now D: if you want you can easily talk to me more later xD
And be carefull when visiting people. I've already went on a 4-month trip around the USA, things went mostly well, but i've had a few rather bad situations where people didn't say so, but made it quite clear that they wanted ... certain things ... in return for the free crash space.
But random trips like that are definitely fun and worth it!
If you ever feel like coming to Québec/Canada, i'd be quite happy to offer crash space 'n such... Take advantage of the exchange rate!
