That won't be a cheap fix. Looks like either the joint or the linkage failed; passably both. Not sure on your car but there tends to be a lot of time into that kinda repair. If your car is front wheel drive it will be worse. Hope it turns out better then it looks for you.

Now there are two ways you can do this, option A is having a shop do it for you, option B is to do your research and get the necessary tools and parts you need to do it yourself, the latter route being the cheapest, and most rewarding. Ball joints and linkages are usually broken because they have not been greased as often as they should if ever, I grease mine every 6000 miles. Luckily it looks to be rear wheel drive, so you can definitely put the time in a DIY project. Optionally.

That's not entirely correct. Ball Joints are going to wear at some point. Especially the lower ones that support the cars weight. Eventually they break down. Sure greasing them and monitoring them can increase life but they always need replacing at some point. Hopefully prior to catastrophic failure like this.

I've owned vehicles up to 40 years old, sure there is a time where even major things need replacing, but a ball joint failure has never been an issue. Yes I replaced them, yes I have replaced entire axle and suspension assemblies. Just because I managed to make something last longer doesn't mean I will wait until a failure because incidents like this are very preventable. You aren't really making a valid point still because you are making it clear to me that either A, you have never properly learned to maintain a suspension. Or B, you have been under the impression that somehow when someone mentions taking care of something means it lasts forever, on that case you are right to an extent. Even the most well maintained equipment can still and will inevitably fail. Be it age or driving habits.

No I am 100% making a valid point.You said if you greased it you could extend the life and prevent this. I said that no matter how much you grease it eventually it'll wear. You neglected to mention that. You made it out as if it's the drivers fault that it wore down. That isn't necessarily the case. Checking it often will prevent a catastrophic failure yes but it won't prevent it from needing to be replaced no.
It's about tone and context. If you weren't trying to make it out like the part would last forever with maintenance then you did a poor job in your post.

I'm not here for arguments, if that is all you are here to make I am sure you are not worth talking to.
