Shading/colouring tutorials?

I'm having some problems with combining my shading and colouring in photoshop.
Now, I love colouring stuff and I love shading in monochrome, but I do not know how to combine the two in photoshop :/
So, if you know of any good shading/colouring tutorials or feel like telling me your secret of your own shading/colouring method, please share :3
(also a noob question: how do I copy different layers into a seperate, merged layers, with the original layers still being seperate?)

I've mostly been coloring in sai lately, since it's very quick and I've been working on speeding up my art process. I'm going to be doing a few personal pieces where I might need to use these tuts myself though x3 Good luck =D And I hope these help.
