Cats loose their barbs after they are neutered or have a drop in testosterone. If they are that easily lost, then it has always been my theory that a race of cat anthros would have genitals without barbs so sex lasts longer and is more pleasurable.

The barbs on a cat actually don't cause bleeding. The are designed to dig out other male seen from the cat.
