Finally Won a GT2 race
Took me several days, but I finally won a few races in Gran Turismo 2, using a 1993 Toyota (model escapes me). To illustrate how slow I took, I bought the FIAT 1972 500R, which was gravy slow, so I had to grind to buy a Nissan 1800c car, which kept me competitive in the early races, but I was still stuck going 5th & 6th. Finally, I remade enough to buy the Toyota with double the horsepower & dominated the Sunday Cup.
For GT purists, it must be a joke to hear this numbnut celebrate finally getting it right, but I really like the game and want to enjoy winning so I'd be motivated to try the big guns.

But I think the process for me is grinding until I can buy something with more horsepower & use that to grind the bigger events. Obviously, the end goal are the million credit rides, but I'm focused on unlocking everything.
I've had some good luck with PSX emulators, especially when you can use authentic game discs in the DVD-RW drive you should have. Played all three Crash Bandicoot games, both WWF SmackDown!s & Driver 2 on one... have to remember which emulator I used, though.
Also, you can play PSOne games on PS3 or PS2, as well, but most fat PS2s have disc readers that burn out quickly and become useless. Just a heads-up if you want to go the console route.
I remember my full starting strategy now. Get licenses as quickly as possible to be able to join races with high-value car output to be able to mod your garage quickly without any financial restraints. Tune cars to be light and a good suspension setup. Have super sticky tires for a high efficiency output on high power short races.
My favourite track is probably the go-cart track (Motor Sports Land) that is only available in arcade model as a time-trial. This is where skill rules over power.
