Peer Pressure of Undertale

So, unless you really don't involve yourself in the furry community much you can find that you hear about Undertale a lot. For those who don't know, Undertale is a 8 bit style role-playing video game developed and published by tobyfox and has been credited highly by players and critiques for its player driven narrative. You are a human that has found themselves in an underground monster world.
I cannot escape from hearing about this game eiher from posts or even friends talking to me about it. I find it everywhere from Tumblr, Twitter and even on my FA pages. I have had friends trying to convince me that I have to play this and that I am missing out of my life for not playing it.
Now, I was disinterested in the game to begin with but I would never deny a game's merits even if I would not enjoy it personally. I didn't enjoy Final Fantasy 7 but I know a lot of people really loved it. I don't really like the 8-bit rpg as I get bored very easily with the visual style and mechanics, it may have been something I might try but this is unlikely now because of the peer pressure. I feel like I am bombared with this thing and what started of as a disinterest has turned it into something more of a dislike of the game. My idea is that there is too much of a hard sell and it makes it off-putting and alienating.
I know understand why some of my friends dislike the things they do "because it is popular". I have one who dislikes x-com though many love it because of that same pressure.

FA+

Sofar, I still don't own the game ;D
But anyway, I understand you. I had this with lot of games. Pressure can be sometimes terrible. But, I was lucky, and FIRST I saw a review of Undertale, then I saw bilions of fanarts etc. I didnt play it, but each time, when I hear it, or see fanarts, lets plays, etc, there is a less chance, that I'll play it whenever. Which is sad. :)
ufff is this the new Fnaf effect? when a indie game gets so popular, it starts annoying one to see everyone fanboying about it?
I usually try my best to avoid spoilers and/or consistent praise/talk about something if I'm going to eventually try it out myself. I want to judge it my own way, and not have prior thoughts or opinions effecting my overall experience.
I guess I'm a bit thankful I haven't had too many people discussing it, or avoiding spoiling anything about it.
kidding... sorry that it puts you off, and I guess it's fair if you don't like that exact style of the game. It's a different game than most, people are loving the feels of it, and it has the "unsettling undertone" of something bigger that noone understands.... think that might be what drives people mad. More people who are looking at the game the more people who might figure out what the crap is going on.
I Do hope you play it at some point (and maybe also have fun with it i dunno), but if not then oh well :I
Everyone has their own tastes though.

It's also fairly short - like 6 hours for a pretty fulfilling read-everything play-through.
In other words: it's a well written short story with minor game mechanic elements.
That said - if you are looking for challenging game play mechanics or if you're disinterested in a story focused game, then yes, pass on it or just watch a playthrough.
Thankfully the game does have a demo that you can play for free so you can at least say "I played the demo"
It's definitely more 16-bit, for all that matters, and I think the game kinda looks like garbage which is usually a deal breaker for me, but the writing is really what's carrying the game for me so far. The mechanics are only surface-level JRPG, functionally the gameplay is mostly a defensive shmup where you're dodging attacks flying at you for a few seconds. Your "attacks" are either a timed button press or picking a conversation topic.
So far I hardly think it's the cant-miss experience other people have made it out to be, but the writing is funny and witty and has genuinely made me laugh on multiple occasions, so....*shrug*. I'm super not the kind of person who gets into 'fandoms' though, there has never been a game or show or movie where I felt super compelled to make OCs and fanart of, so that part of it is lost on me.
