COMMISSION INFORMATION

Okay, can some honest fur tell me why it is when I see people resubmitting someone elses art (with permission or not) can somehow garner MORE attention and MORE comments/faves?

WHAT THE FUCK.

I'm not mentioning any names here, but why is it when I submit art I did on my own without someone doing it for me, someone with little or no art talent submits something (ex: a commission) and it gets so many hits and faves whereas I'm left I'm the dark?

Okay, so the art I'm talking about (again, not mentining names) was drawn a lot better than I can draw, but still I digress, THATS BULLSHIT. The user who submitted said in the submissions comment that he did not draw it, he commissioned someone to do it for him.

I may seem like a bigot here, but this shit makes NO FUCKING SENSE.

i actully agree n.n ive talked a few artists that allow people to do that and i don't really understand! my art isnt good, but i still dont understand how someone who joined a month ago, can get more watches and fav's without any of the work. but i guess for commissions they did buy the rights to the art so i cant complain that much =P

Yeah, I'm not saying that us artists shouldn't allow people who can't draw to submit the pictures they recieved, it just doesn't make any sense as far as I can see.

What I want to say though, is give the original artist ALL the credit and stop helping the guy who can't draw to save his life the credit he doesn't deserve.

I agree fully n.n Favorites and comments should go the the artist. Ive had good artists draw me a few things in the past, but i personally never posted them in my gallery, it just didnt seem right to me

I guess that's a personal moral choice for the person who paid for the commission and the right to post it. I think it's a shame that the artist doesn't get credit deserved, but perhaps its something to consider for artists who would hand away the right to post.

I'm sure they get credit someway, but not in the aspect I'm talking about. The drawing the commissioner did should be the one getting all the hits and whatnot.

I just don't do that. I asked someone a few months ago, when I first came here, "Is it good practice to "present" another artist's work on my page?" and the flat-out "NOs! were overwhelming. It makes so much more sense NOT to do that. All I'll do is write in my journal to alert when someone has drawn something I find especially good for others to see - like, pictures of Lani for example, hee-hee - and include a LINK to the art.

That's all I do, and people seem to prefer it. ^_^

On the other hand, of course, if your work was paid for, and for a substantial amount, I COULD understand if the rights of the art were given over to the commissioner, wouldn't you say? I'm not sure how that works exactly for artwork. I know as a writer, I retain first rights on all materials, but it doesn't preclude one from posting my stories/novellas elsewhere - if they have my permission to do so. ^_^

Well, its true that it is not fair, it irks me too at times. Still, sometimes the art really is kick ass and looks terrific, so people would flock to that and at times, maybe they don't really read all that is up in the comment box at first by accident (i know that sometimes i even do that, skim it, then comment, then skim again) it happens. Personally tho, I think that a lot of people need to be pretty happy with what they already get! Its annoying to see the people who don't even do any real work put up stuff in the galleries, but there is nothing that is going to stop them (unless the artist themselves says no), just have to live with it and carry on knowing you are at least doing your own work and then strive to be better

Seriously though xD, you're right. If the original artist allows the user to post their art, that's fine, but what I think would be better too is if the original artist posts the picture intheir gallery as well. But then it gets messed up if the person who commissioned then ends up getting more good stuff than the original guy.

I agree it's ridiculous. however, I mean, some things that were drawn for me have since been taken down off of the artist's FA. is it wrong for me to put them up, and link to the original artist with them? I know, I know, they took it down for a reason. but I think the furry world aught to see what they did for me! However, I usually just fave art that's been done for me, so I don't interfere by reposting.

I don't get it either. I always link the original artist, and I try to link the original piece and tell them to fave/comment/watch there.

Hear, hear. When the “stats” tab made its appearance I did a little analysis and posted the results. Two of the most popular submissions I put up weren’t done by me.
