creepy childhood memories

Some of the nursery rhymes from when I was little don't seem to make sense anymore, in fact, they're downright creepy. One I remember was called "There was an old man" and it went:
There was an old man who lived in our town
Who was very old and wise
He jumped into a bumble bush
And scratched out both his eyes
And once he saw that they were out
With all his might and main
He jumped into another bush and scratched them in again.
And then there was:
Little Molly Dashes
Sat among the ashes
Warming her pretty little toes
Her mother came and saw her
And whipped her little daughter
For dirtying her nice clean clothes.
When I was little it didn't seem like much, but now I understand why they don't publish some of them anymore.
This is for my cousin Josh, who was born today around 2:00, I hope he never gets scarred :-]
