HI yes it's me talking about studying again i am a very exciting gal you see
just curious, what do you guys find most helpful.. studying one topic for an extended period of time until you get a decent understanding, or alternating between a few topics so you get a more rounded understanding?
I've been studying via the activities from my classes and it's been really helpful and increased my productivity but sometimes i'm like "i don't WANNA study proportion i wanna study FEET but that's not until next week" etc ~__~ how are you guys doing in your artsy journeys? any cool study techniques or activities you've been doing that you've found helpful? any tutorial recommendations? or anything really LET'S JUST TALK ABOUT ART

Whenever there was a topic I couldn't handle I was like "yeah, whatever" and started studying other stuff... both at home and at school! :P
Now that I'm free from all of that I'm finally able to concentrate on whatever I'd like to practice over! :)
It depends on what you think after all; if the current subject is something you can already do pretty well and you'd rather need to study something else, I'd say go for it and just do the bare exercises for the current topic.
Maybe I'll try to make a finished pic to represent whatever it is i should be studying so it's both forcing study and also forcing me to immediately apply it.
Thanks for the feedback!
Of course in a big school it's different, in there the absolutely best way (in my opinion) would be to attend multiple courses at once but that can be overkill as well sometimes.
Glad to be of help! :)
Overall, I think my artsy journey has been years of "draw from reference", but of late I've started to get more things coming from instinct, and I don't always bother finding refs for simple poses any more. It helps to try to relate the character's body to my own; if I can imagine myself in their situation, I can 'feel' how I would be standing and how my weight would be distributed - although sometimes I have to stand up and pose myself and sort of look along all my limbs. Which is probably laughable for anyone watching :)
I'd say dwaddle in everything, become adept at it so you can actually say you know how to do it-- instead of 100% specializing in the one thing youre good at and becoming a less rounded artist
I've noticed trying to find an art-related job outside of college it's actually hard to find something that only requires the skills of that one topic! It's like, oh no you should be good at photography, good at woodwork, do great with digital programs etc etc, so if you have good examples of a bit of everything to show youre competent you get a shitton more interest, I lost a really great job opportunity because of my lack of photography skills and that's hard to deal with-- I spent a lot of time doing paintings in school and just focusing on that, wanting that to be my strongest point-- and it still is, but at the end of the day you need more and you have the chance and the teachers who will show you the right way instead of fumbling about after graduating trying to gain skills you should have already figured out
I've found some incredibly helpful tutorials on YouTube by Cubrush, Toonbox Studios, and Swatches. (Those are just the three I can remember off the top of my head.)
However, I've found that this is basically a never ending process, there is always room to improve, always something I want to do better on, always something that irritates the hell out of me when I see it in my work
For me though, I would like to do more longer term, intensive studies at this point.
Though, most of the time, I get into a mode where I want to alternate from one thing to another to give variety to my learning process. I find this helpful as to give me a mental break.
:/
Btw these updates are taking a lot longer than I expected x___x I'm nearly done Anatomy, I'm pretty sure I'll have that done by this evening. I've done like a complete overhall so it was a lot more work than I was anticipating. Happy with the result though!
COOL yes I will try this, ty for the suggestion!
