... And a hard question... (read, please)
The Commissions are: OPEN! (check this for commission info, prices and more)
Well... Maybe it's no so hard, actually... *^^*
Let me go straight to the point. I had some problems lately (well, a lot of them, to be honest) and I really need to know... If I begin to offer commissions, anyone would buy?
I'm asking this because a lot of things has happened to my business (for those doesn't know, I work as freelancer video editor), and I'm under risk of don't have my job anymore (I won't go into a detailed summary, but it's simply ugly. Very ugly).
To be honest, I'm already thinking about it since kinda one or two years ago (I did never put the plan in action because I thought I'm not in a technical level which allow me to offer that. The original plan was supposed to be executed [maybe] only in the next year, actually... But, well, the circumstances forced me to cancel some plans, delay others and even advance some others). Oh, also, I wrote "a hard question" because I really didn't know how to ask it, ok? ^^
So, I really need some answers as soon as possible and, if someone can give tips about how to proceed (or how their experience is going), I would be thankful from the bottom of my heart. :)
Thank you very much in advance!
Bem... *^^*
Me permitam ir direto ao ponto.
Desde já, muitíssimo obrigado!

I have to go to bed right now, so I'll have to write a better reply tomorrow. For right now, here's a few golden rules for artists trying to get commissions:
1) Never feel bad about turning down a commission for any reason.
2) Limit yourself to slots. When starting out, take only one at a time, and avoid opeing more than 5 slots at once.
3) Do not start a waiting list until you're experienced. Just looking at a long list is a good way to feel overwhelmed.
4) Take payment ahead of time. The artist has more to lose than the client, both in terms of money and reputation.
5) Don't spend the money until the commission is completed. Refunds may need to happen at the worst times.
6) You can always negotiate with the client if a picture isn't working or if there's a delay. Art can wait, but communication cannot.
7) Save multiple progressive stages of the art, whether the client requests the sketch/lineart/flats separately or not.
8) When asking for commissions, suggest a few themes you like to draw, to entice/steer the clients in the direction you handle well.
9) Don't charge too little, but keep sketches cheap. Remind people they can always have B&W drawings colored later.
10) Factor research into your time budget. Many people have sloppy or disorganized references that can be difficult to collect.
And, OMG, thank you very, very, very, very much, mate! <3
That's a lot of information, but is much of I need to start! It will help a lot when I finally set the stuff here.
Oh, and I'm doing some research lately about the payment ways (principally PayPal, since it seems be very used out there)... If I may ask, how do you have been dealing with that?
