Here we go, here we go again......
This was written last Christmas Eve, while thinkin bout my brothers and life. Yes, the basic form is "T'was the Night Before Christmas" by Clement Clark Moore.
T'was the night before the christmas
And something was missing
Maybe that marine Lance Corporal
Or their brothers sent and missing
To all those left crying
and the others left alone
We are all left wondering
Why did they have to go?
We look out onto
our own peaceful places
Only to realize
Its from those in better places
With those left behind
and the ones leaving
We cannot forget
why we are still breathing
Between the soldiers
and our gov.
We must stop and wonder
What is the meaning of?
The meaning of this time
and the meaning of the freedom
The meaning of the cross
and the meaning of the One
We look to a large man
dressed all in fur
For hope, to forget,
and presents galore
But we must not forget
the men and women left
In order to protect
Whom they love best
They pick up their gear
tomorrow morning and hope
That soon they'll ride home,
And try not to mope.
So they march on
and pray to God
That he will protect them
and his family's abode.
And while we sit here
in mirth and glee
We soon tend to forget
the soldiers overseas
As we rip off the paper
Of our newest toy or gadget
Their families wish with all their hearts
that their soldier could enjoy it
But because of the man
that seven years ago gave a whistle
And the men on those planes
became their own evil missile
As they scarred our nation
and gave immediate misery
Seven years later
we still have the memory
And the effect on the people
of those sent to fight
Is just like that morning,
The beginning of this night.
So during this day
don't look upon your own.
But onto the soldiers and families
of that horrible dawn.
So instead of thinking this unto yourself
think of those in the fight
And may you wish them, a
Merry Christmas to them all, And to all a Good Night

There's a very similar one to this. I don't remember where I heard it, but I think it was an Army version instead of Marine. Reguardless. Well thought.
