close family @-@ we ended up staying with some close family for Halloween since it was in a way a tradition. Though I personally had only being doing this tradition for 2 years ( this was the second ) since previously I had a tradition of my own which had to change. Which is life. The year before was much worse but now I am noticing a trend that I wont have happen for a 3rd. Even if like this year next year gets shitty ( knocks on wood ) I wont have this be a tradition to happen again. When I did have a decent time ( though it was due to friends coming over as well not just family )

Thanks for everyone's such nice words of agreement It really makes me feel a lot better. THAT I was in the right to be upset about what had been said. Since a few other people who I had told said I was over reacting for being so hurt by these words.

Not everyone needs a ceremony and legally binding contract, and it certainly isn't the only way to validate a relationship's status.

It was worse cause it came from a family member who has been pushing us to get married for a bit too long. See the thing about Cody and I we have talked about getting married. BUT we both agreed we want to do it when we have enough money to have a nice wedding. ( court house weddings don't do it for us. We know it will for some people but not us ) and this person knows this. Which is why it hurt even worse and just caused me to leave the room. I didn't say another word. I just left cause I did not need to hear it RIGHT when we were on our way home.

I fully agree. My boyfriend and I have our Anniversary be our first real DATE. When it was a date. Since we started out being friends and even though our first date was really silly. It meant so much to us. Which is why we try to make it special every year.

I'll never get why some people will push marriage like that, if your ready to get married then you'll get married. Honestly some people act like you can't be in love unless there's a ring on your finger and it's just plain wrong.

it's ironic cause Cody and I do have some friends who married early and while that works for some people. It didn't work for them. They fight all the time. And constantly say " well if i wasnt married I wouldn't be with X"

My bf and I have our 4 year dating anniversary coming up later this month too! So I feel you,we booked a little getaway ourselves,just to enjoy being out of my parents house for a couple days :P We're graciously staying with them until we save up enough money for our own apt/car/he gets a stable job/etc,so we're thankful,but it is great getting out for a while!

That's kinda how cody and I are now. We have roommates lined up we're just saving up for a house ouo ( rent a house not buy a house. Out here it is cheaper to rent a HOUSE then rent an apartment)

If you can see on my profile 2004 thats a long time to be in a non marriage related relationship.
That person has no common sense at all v.v Fighting words like another before me has said.
It takes a little bit more to hold a relationship and not be married I think because there are not really preconceptions except by those who do not know any better.
