Hello, Everyone!
We are not technically "Witches." That's not really the correct term. We are really Conduits. Some would even call us Containers. We are buckets full of Magic. When a Witch dies, they release their energy into the air. And when a Witch is being formed they are infused with magic and as they grow up, so does their magic.
Magic, however, can spoil and that can be deadly. Veranda the Forsaken created a spell that cycles the magic every Halloween using the dead Witches over the past 1000 years as spare storage, briefly bringing them back from the dead.
There are many many many Witches. Those in the Three Families are simply really powerful and the largest Conduits.
We also understand finally, through recent research how Witches are formed. We used to think that Witches were made through genetics, but that is not the case. The magical energy used to form Witches comes from the parents. Not genetically, but emotionally. After expanding studies, the rate of Witches was the same no matter the gender of the parents. As longs both were Witches, a Witch was guaranteed. Even if they adopted.
Plus we know that the offspring of two Witches is more powerful.
But, the biggest secret of Witches; the one thing no one is supposed to know about is that the Hero Serum that created the Brethren could only work with Witches. Experiments were done on non-Witches but failed. Terribly. It usually resulted in the subject going mad. As, actually, was the case with Brian. He wan't a Witch, but was given the serum anyway more as a punishment. All the other subjects. Every single member of the Brethren were Witches.
