George Barris has left us. RIP to the greatest customizer.
I learned about it just a few minutes ago after coming online and checking my Facebook. I met him once years ago when both the Munster coach and Batmobile were at the Kansas City World of Wheels. He was signing autographs and wish I still had mine from him.
He transcended generations and cultures. Creating iconic cars for iconic movies and TV shows. From oldest to youngest car guy, from the 50's to today all who love cars know him. All who love the movies and TV shows that star his cars know him.

FA+

I had heard so many good things about him and saw all the cars he designed and made... such a shame that he's gone now. :c
May he rest peacefully up in the clouds~
That Super Van is totes 70s, right on!
And I didn't know that Barris made The Car...
Waaaaaay back when I went to SEMA, we had the General in our booth and he came up to the booth. I wasn't as well versed in car lore back then as I'm more of a design the parts and make em fit kinda guy, so he came up to our booth and introduced himself. I sort of blew him off because he was just another guy asking about when John Schneider was going to come by the booth. By that time I'd had my fill of folks trying to crowd the booth to meet him and as he walked away my boss sort of gave me a whack and asked if I had any idea who that was. Once he told me I felt like such an ass for not recognizing him considering I've grown up watching so many of his cars from the Munsters to the Monkees.
Years later I ran across the Batmobile in Sacramento too. Apparently he had a shop there that he loved to use for restoration and when they finished with the cars they would hold them at the Vintage Ford Parts store until his people would come pick up the car. Last I had heard they had the Munsters coach coming next. That's one I would've loved to have seen.
