Hard Drive Corrupt

Well now, nothing but problems for me lately. Today, when booting up my main desktop i found that my extra hard drive has become corrupt. Its annoying because it most likely is caused by something simple. A system file probably just got corrupted and now the entire hard drive is becoming fucked.
Thankfully this means that recovering the data on it will most likely be extremely simple. The bad thing about this, is that this hard drive was the largest one i had, and thus just simply recovering the data.... is going to be hard without an equally large hard drive.
Check disk doesnt work, because the computer cannot recognize the file system, so i cant simply do that.
So right now im waiting while some recovery software i got works to scan the hard drive. After that is done, i will probly start the actual recovery process. I will more than likely need to find myself a back up hard drive to store the information on, so i can actual do the data recovery.
Oh and BTW, not only was this hard drive the one i install my games and download porn to, it is also the hard drive that photoshop, flash, and any of my other art programs are installed onto.
Thankfully, my art itself generally gets saved to thumb drives and onto the desktop, but some of my older works were on that hard drive. Thankfully, i can keep working on art on my laptop... heh like ive actually been doing anything art related in a while, but overall its just annoying.

The only problem is that I don't think it's free. :S
I've had that happen several times before. Simply put, your partition table is likely what's been corrupted. That or the MBR or a boot sector. Either way, you should download and try Testdisk available here: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download
Use the documentation on the website to help walk you through it. If you're lucky, you won't have to retrieve your data at all. Just repair the MBR, boot sector or partition and away you go.
My C: drive crashed on me about an hour ago. Some kind of data corruption.
However, if it turns into failure, there is a little trick you can sometimes do (I know it works for physical drive failure, if it gets that bad)
Put your drive in an anti-static bag, then in a freezer bag and keep it in the freezer for a couple days...that usually fixes most physical problems.
Hope you can recover everything you need. I sometimes get deals for external hard-drives (got the 320GB Seagate Free Agent for about $40.00 after shipping)
