Friend taking commissions! (Also, coloring info/interest)

A good RL friend of mine, 
iamwrath , is taking commissions now! Go pester her for some really good art (I feel she's under charging, honestly).

Also, I've been thinking about starting to do color commissions (I can't draw very well yet, but damn if I can color and do simple shading). Has anyone ever taken commissions to color someone else's art before? Do you get notes and then check with the original artist if they are okay with you coloring their art?
If I start doing colors, it would probably start cheap, and I probably wouldn't start for about a month or so anyway. Just trying to see if there would be any interest.
