I been watching when I actually feel the need lately. With 9, 10, and 11 I was eager to watch. With Peter it is kind of hard to get into. He doesn't have the same energy as them for me.

Peter's first season had a couple of okay episodes then it went downhill in a disturbingly steady rate. It's like the writers are only writing to be remembered for writing anything, not remembered for what they write.

Series 8 and 9 are two of my favorite series of the show, alongside 1 and 4. Capaldi's Doctor is able to be both funny and serious and make it work. It's just a refreshing change of pace after three series of hit-or-miss wacky Matt Smith hijinks (and admittedly three series before that of hit-or-miss wacky David Tennant hijinks.) Plus, Clara's being utilized wonderfully as a character now. While series seven Clara is still pointless, series 8/9 have given her a personality and a story that makes me glad she stayed on in Last Christmas.

When Capaldi's Doctor began I was whole heartedly expecting a darker more serious Doctor. I openly welcomed it especially when they went on about him 'fixing his mistakes' and being the Doctor who fights the monsters. I saw a little of this to begin with and I genuinely saw Clara realize that life travelling with the Doctor isn't all fun and games.

This season all I have seen is the Doctor relying/needing Clara to be around. Becoming the same Doctor who is there to highlight Clara's character rather than to investigate the mystery and fight the bad stuff. The writers have put humor in yes, but some of it goes beyond the silly humor of Matt Smith's Doctor. (Guitar to an axe fight....Bought a (army) tank off the internet for his fish???)

The show is severely lacking serious content as it seems no matter how scary the monster it seems none of the characters are either taking them seriously or see them as a serious threat. The series needs serious loss and I don't mean a handful of Unit extras no one seems to care about.

See, I view this season as just set-up for Clara. Series 7, she existed solely because it was Matt Smith's send-off season and he needed one last mystery. Series 8, she was having the duality of life with the Doctor and life in the real world, and Danny kept her grounded. But now we're in series nine and she's lost Danny, which means she has nothing left but life with the Doctor to keep her going. That's why, in addition to her having traveled with him longer, I can appreciate her being more helpful nowadays. The show has been building up the fact that Clara is becoming very much like the Doctor, much to his dismay.
