▧▨▧▨▧▨▧▨▧▨▧▨▧▨▧▨▧▨▧▨▧▨▧▨▧▨▧▨▧▨▧▨▧▨▧▨▧▨▧▨▧▨ WHOOO This whole ordeal has been so stupid, I've never run into such a long string of problems with something that seemed like a simple file transfer and update. GEEZ. Anyway, I've got a temporary laptop to work with until I get my hands on one of my own.
My plan:
Borrow money from my buddypal
Purchase a laptop on Cyber Monday (may not be the one I was aiming for but hey, if it's on sale and has similar specs, why not! If you have any suggestions for sales you've seen on specific laptops, please link me! I'm looking for something that'll play nicely with Photoshop and Maya/3D programs. I DON'T GAME! No Macs.)
Fundraise to pay my buddypal back the borrowed money + probably a YCH!
To help get me started, I'm having a sale on my files! If you already have these or can't afford them, you can still help by spreading the word!
!!!EVERYTHING IS $1!!!

It's very plain and ugly as sin, no touchscreen, all plastic, and sort of a mediocre resolution, but it's got a 5th-generation i7 processor, comes with 6gb RAM and can be upgraded to 12. Plus, it's manufactured by Asus, so it should last about twice as long as anything else in its price range.
Should be able to handle massive resolutions pretty snappy-like.
I'm playing with your refsheet PSD and my catburd looks better with a vagina than a penis.
I feel slightly conflicted about this.
Honestly, the Asus here is a good machine, but if you can afford better, do it. I implicitly trust Asus, but I have never been disappointed with Lenovo either.
The reason you might want to consider a more advanced model is the same reason you might want to consider buying a BMW instead of a Hyundai if you make a living driving.
The laptop mentioned there was more of a stopgap that I assumed would fill an emergency void. The reason it's cheaper is because it's still all ABS, uses a 1366x768 display, still has an internal disk drive (blocks ventilation and creates another failure point, a consequence of using an older "surplus" chassis from several years ago). Asus and Lenovo both offer much better, including faster hard drives for quicker load times, better RAM speed for smoother operation, and aluminum bodies which improve durability and act as secondary radiators to further reduce core temperature.
Generally for PS and other image-heavy stuff you want a good processor, a great screen, and as much high-end RAM as you can get your hands on, which smooths out things like editing.
I'm going to show you a couple that I think you'd be happy with:

This is a cutting-edge light- to moderate-duty gaming laptop sold under the Republic of Gamers product line. Funny enough, the combination of the smaller size and its compromise on heat mitigation under ultra-high-stress performance, the smaller battery bank, and smaller screen make this less than ideal for gamers. These machines are *perfect* for 3D imaging and photo editing/digital painting though, given that they have pretty much every high-tech innovation that rolled out with the Skylake processor architecture. Having the quad-core processor this one offers (the letters HQ at the end of the CPU model code) means it should be extremely smooth for multitasking, which means it won't slouch when you're running music PLUS photoshop PLUS a screen capture service. Plus, the red highlights are sexy. Maybe I should take that into consideration with my feathers. >v>
Maximum RAM is 16gb with this machine so you've got some overhead for the future, though it taked the new DDR4 profile, which means that right now RAM is a little pricier, though it performs absolutely amazing for number-crunching tasks such as rendering. ^v^

Behind door number two you've got a little more economical model. One of Lenovo's Flex 15 models. These guys are pretty solid as well, and have the advantage of being a not-quite 2-in-1 design, which means it's significantly harder to damage the hinges on the screen. What you lose for the savings is the quad-core processor and the heavy-duty 9th-generation Kepler graphics card which makes 3d imaging work super smooth in things like Maya, instead getting a slightly more pedestrian 800 series of two performance steps down. You would not be disappointed with this one though, especially if you can think of another use for $100. ALso upgradeable to 16gB of RAM.

The last one you'll want to look at is this one. It's very capable, though it's the runt of the litter today. Features a really neat 6th-generation i5 processor which will get you the best battery life of all of these here by a wide margin, full 2-in-1 design so you can use it where and how you like without fear of heat accumulation. Lots of aluminum in the design so it's pretty tough and looks really nice, but it might be a little heavier than its size and slim profile would normally suggest.
This is part of why I am pushing just a little to get the PC from a brick & mortar store so you can return it if it doesn't suit you.
Also because my sorry ass works for Best Buy and I get intimately familiar with what's good and what's butt-terrible and what the best deals are.
to give you an idea of the kind of hardware Asus builds, I'd like to tell you about my laptop.
It's a K60 series laptop from August of '07. The cheapest computer Best Buy was selling at the time. They told me I'd be disappointed with it, but less so than with the HP and the Acer I was looking at.
They weren't kidding. The Pentium T4400 processor was outdated the moment it hit the market. So, being the pedantic freshman college student I was, I figured, I was making enough at Menard's to pay both my junior college tuition and put some away on the side, but I really couldn't justify buying a new computer unless the old one broke.
So I spent about three years very subtly trying to destroy it so I'd have an excuse to replace it.
It only happened February of this year when it finally started to show the first signs of hard disk failure. Except with as long as it lasted and as well as it worked, I felt super guilty and ended up fixing it.
Because I'm super sappy and sentimental about retarded things like a junk laptop from eight years ago.
Asude from having a bit less battery life than it did back then, about 45 minutes now to the three or so hours it came with, it's in perfect shape. It's still slower than molasses running uphill in the dead of winter, but it still works *perfectly*, aside from one of the three USB ports cutting out intermittently because of all of the times I tripped over my external sound card.
And don't worry about it! It's nice to so something helpful and productive with my SUPER ASPERGERS PEDANTIC KNOWLEDGE ACCUMULATION POWERS other than arguing with strangers on Facebook.
