Apartment Hunting
General
My partner and I are currently apartment hunting, and I am completely mentally exhausted. There is hardly anything even out there that's in our price range, and most places that do pop up won't even respond to our calls and emails. We've been at it for a couple weeks now and there's still nothing. I'm starting to get really worried.
I do live in one of the most competitive rental markets in the country, which doesn't help :(
So excuse me while I cease to exist for a little while.

I hate hate haaaaate apartment hunting. Especially complexes that have application fees. Those are totally bullshit. It's just an excuse for the building to take your money for doing nothing. I've been where you are but I can't even do anything to help DX I'm sorry... Best of luck to you, friend.

Thanks XD yeah, out here almost every place has an application fee. And every other Craigslist ad is a scam. It's just way too tough out here, the only place in the country where the rental market is worse is in New York City :/

I guess that's the problem with living in one of the most desirable places in the US heh....

It is, one of many XD I likely won't be able to afford or mentally handle living here much longer in all honesty

Luckily, if you have the means to move long distance, you can only get cheaper in terms of housing haha...

That's true! I just worry about how much less I'd also be making for a similar job... But I feel like the ratio of income to housing costs is unlikely to be as bad as it is here. It'd just be tough to leave California after spending almost my whole life here yaknow? Bound to happen sooner or later though probably.

I understand completely. I really do think things would even out though, especially in a state like Oregon where minimum wage is pretty high and there's no state sales tax. But moving out of state or even out of town would definitely take some getting used to.

well good luck then with your hunt. Prey may be elusive, but if you keep on its trail eventually you will get it. *nearhugs*

*hugs* Good luck! I know how that feels. :/The places that are in our price range out here have horrible reviews about bedbugs, cockroaches, or management companies that don't take care of the place or their residents.

Thanks! Yeah, we're probably gonna end up living in a not great part of Oakland.. but honestly at this point I don't even care anymore, I just want it to be over XD
