Whats a DOS game?

It is game that was made back in that time. And many gamers liked there old games. But newer computers will not run them. Which I never understood why. All they would need would be dual boot.

But maybe there is more to it.

Anyway. I was bored and was on ebay one night and seen many older computers going for 100 bucks. You know. Puters we have put in the trash. LOL

Which I have saved most of my fathers office puters. But anyway.

Peeps like me that older stuff redo them and set them up for DOS and the gamers buy them.

Yeah, I have Vista but it doesn't run old games like Blood or Shadow Warrior which I have.
But use DOXBOX. It's a DOS emulator. Runs the games on my Vista. It's old fashioned command prompt though, even the installation process for the games is command prompt.

But yeah, I'm definitely old...

The reason old games like that don't work anymore is because DOS was rewritten for security reasons and a LOT of the commands needed to run those games have changed or been removed all together.

If you have your computer run "cmd" that will open command prompt, but that is as close to the old DOS system as most computers get now days

Well, replaced is a better word for it.

Someone just wrote a different prompting language which had more security and functionality.

Be glad of it too, without that Windows XP and above wouldn't have been possible.

It isn't perfect at all, but I have been beta testing for a while now and it is a LOT closer than vista could ever have hoped to have been.

o I have a gamer friend who collect even older than that...he has games that only run on old comps that use floppy discs ...the big ones (like 5 inch type) and the monitor only has one color...green print on a black screen. So weird. And they were comps from before online anything existed!
