The story of bad luck Ben and the MFF trip.

Give me fuel! Give me fire! Give that which I desire! Better get a drink and a sandwich, because it's gonna take a second to read, but I'd love if you did so much if you did so.~ <3

Ok, to start, nothing at the event went bad (to me at least) but the bad luck part is more or less what happened leading up to.
So! We start from the beginning.
I only found out about MFF about a week before it happened, so more or less I scrambled to make arrangements.
I contacted a friend who lives up that way to see if I could stay with them, sadly...I couldn't, which is sad because I really wanted to spend time with her too.
So! I went to the site to learn more. I saw you could either reserve your own room or go to conroomies.com to see if someone had an open room. I looked both over and found someone with a spot open in one room.
I decided to contact them and wait for their word before I booked a room, which I know they still had one because it said there was availability for a single.
Wednesday I scheduled Friday and Monday off work (vacation time...what was left of it) so I had more or less committed at that point. I also reserved a rental car at Enterprise for the weekend, and make sure to remember that part, it's extra credit on the test.
Then...Thursday came. Got up at 6:30 AM, worked 8 to 4:30, went to Enterprise, asked where my car was, guy said "Oh, sorry, we had people keep their cars longer so we don't have one for you to rent this weekend" which put me in one hell of a spot. After all the string pulling I could do I finally came up with two options. Don't go...or drive my 200k+ truck up there (which rolled over 208,000 miles on the way back) and make it. Well, the last option got it because I was not missing this event.
So, got home, took a shower, made sure everything was right and saw the guy I emailed hadn't got back with me. So, I went to reserve my room, but guess what? Reservations were closed! So...at that point I felt like shooting myself...I didn't though! I kept faith and just took a quick nap. After a nap, loaded my truck and hit the road a little after 10:30 PM.
After eight hours and almost 500 miles on the road (all in the dark and half through what was seemed to be frost like fog, thanks Illinois) I made it to the Hyatt at a little before 6 AM. I went up to the desk, got what wifi I could and looked at my email to see if guy emailed me back...nothing.
So...as I talk to the lady at the desk I'm frantically tried to get a hold of him through email, but guess what, it wouldn't send for some reason! So I persuaded the lady to call one of two rooms my guy had gotten. First one...nothing. Second, got an answer, but...my guy wasn't in it. So after almost mashing my head into the counter I asked if she could call the other room just one more time. He answered. Thank god. So I told him I was there and he met up with me in the lobby.
After that, it was more or less smooth sailing.
Also, thanks again to
chronozaishi for coming in at the clutch for having a spot in the room, I made sure to pay him well, for I take care of the ones who take care of me.
Ok! Now that that's out of the way, segway into the con!
Got registered nice and early Friday morning (shiny sponsor, the only way to fly) and more or less had a good time hanging with people and meeting artists that I have been watching for a WHILE now.
Met some of my favs there, like
daigo
duo
gideon
ritts and
strype !
Some other I met and am following now are
swiftjames
tikikata
marymouse
donryu
sage116 and I don't think she has a FA, but here's her Twitter link. https://twitter.com/r3nplays
Now...for the money spending part. I got commissions from
duo and
gideon for art pieces. Not gonna say what...but just letting you know to stay tuned. I also commissioned
tikikata
sage116 and https://twitter.com/r3nplays for badges, and at the time of writing this journal I have Tiki's already. (see gallery)
Now I am also planning on commissioning
donryu and :marymouse: for more badges!
And I know what you're thinking.
"Badges?...You don't need no stinking badges!"
Hundred points to who gets that! XD
Plus, some more art from the ones mentioned before, gonna have to save for that...sigh...
Some one else I had the pleasure of meeting was
dreamsinscareden which made me feel very welcomed at my first con. Thanks Rev!
Also, met
spyfox02 there and played Card Against Humanity more or less most of Sunday night. Definitely gonna do again next year if I go.
Make sure ALL of you go watch ALL of them...NOW! JUST DO IT!!! Watch, like, favorite, follow, all of that! Make sure to tell them Ben sent you!
Gonna pause here and put a thing where I know people have been reading, so if you are reading this, put "MFF rules!" in the comments below. Now, back to your regularly scheduled program.
Other then that, had a great weekend, the con raised a lot of money for Save A Vet which I'll link their site below, and had lots of fun!
After a very emotional closing ceremony, went to bed, woke up early, and trucked my furry flank back to TN, only to get ready for work in the morning, and so goes the way of the working man...or...horse...you get what I mean.
Anyway, if you want to look into some of the things I went to, check out my Twitter and go through the feed, other then that...take it easy y'all! Really hope to try and make MFF again next year, and hopefully more cons in different places over the coming year.
