-FOSSILHOUNDS-
Fossilhounds are a CLOSED species created by Kalikoi/Palm-leafy
ABOUT:
Fossilhounds are guardian spirits of unknown origin. Possessing minor magical abilities, their existence can be considered nothing less than magical. Despite their sometimes-menacing or foreboding appearance, which can be attributed to their size and the radiating glow that seems to emit from their eyes, mouth and tail, hounds are quite gentle and caring creatures. Although some may come off as grumpy or stern, they are all gentle giants and will not hurt a fly.
It is a Fossilhound's nature to protect, and once they imprint on something they intend to protect (known as their guarded), they will not let anything get in the way of that. If a hound is adopted, it is most likely to imprint on it's owner, although it is not unheard of for a hound to imprint on something else while remaining loyal to it's owner.
Every Fossilhound has two glowing orbs of energy within them - one in their chest and one in their tail. This energy, called their source, it the driving force withing a hound. They have no internal organs whatsoever, no blood, nothing that would be found withing a typical living organism. Anything eaten is absorbed and dissolved by their internal glow and converted into more energy. Like every living creature, these gentle spirits do need to eat. However, do to their protective nature, they will not be found eating meat of any kind.
Typical food sources include:
-Stones
-Crystals
-Pinecones
-Sticks
-Grass
-Shells (snail/seashells)
-Plants (if not guarding one)
-Flowers (uncommon but not unheard of)
-Sweets **
etc
**humans who give their guardian sweets will find their hound will have quite the craving for them. Unadvised unless a guarded is willing and able to keep a consistent supply of sweets on hand.
Food is necessary to keep their energy strong. Without it, they struggle to maintain their form.
Fossilhounds range in size from about the height of a Great Dane to the height of a Clydesdale. If size and trust between the guardian and the guarded permits, hounds can be ridden. Saddles and bridles and related tack are a big no no. Allowing the guarded to ride on them is a sign of mutual trust. donning a bridle and saddle shows that the guarded does not trust the hound and it's actions enough to grant them their own control.
Hounds are genderless beings. However, pronouns may be used however the owner wants for ease of communication. Similarly, because of the lack of gender and organs, Fossilhounds cannot reproduce by natural means. In fact, only a single parent is needed to make offspring. IF a baby is to be created, it is done by the hound dividing a piece of their own energy from their source. They will then shed a tear containing that energy. The tear will crystalize and often be hidden in some way in nature (ie buried in the ground, under leaves, in a cave, in water, etc). The crystalized tear will then continue to grow until it's own energy is strong enough to take the form of it's hound. ((Please note that Kalikoi is the only one who can create and sell baby Fossilhounds. Any purchased Fossilhound adoptables cannot be used as breedables.))
Fossilhounds will not show aggression to their guarded or other hounds. They will give warnings if a hound inadvertantly or almost harms another's guarded being (such as those that guard small creatures or plants) but they will not fight. The exception is with corrupted hounds, called Corrosives, but even then, fighting is only used as a last resort.
Fossilhounds who guard something that has decided to act in hatred (most commonly humans) and disagree with what that person stands for will try to change their guarded's actions and help them understand what their doing is wrong. If that fails, they will abandon their guarded. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING TO BE TAKEN LIGHTLY. a hound breaking off with it's guarded is a big deal, and often results in weakened energy for the hound as well as a lot of heartache.
Fossilhounds can die if their energy gets too weak, as they cannot support their physical form without it. a Fossilhound experiencing death will dissappear, returning to the form of the tear they were birthed from. they will then begin the lifecycle over again. they will however, not look the same as they did before they died, and will have no memory of prior events. they may have feelings of remembrance, but they will never truly remember.
A hound who decides to stick with a human who is choosing to do ill will be considered corrupted. these corrupted hounds are called Corrosives, and will keep their human safe and guarded despite it's actions. Corrosives are shunned by fossilhounds and are highly disliked, as the hounds view it as a betrayal of their cause.

~~RULES~~
1.)Only Kalikoi(DA)/Palm-leafy(FA) is allowed to make and sell Fossilhounds. If you would like to buy one, please look for the adoptables I will be posting periodically.
----I am willing to discuss custom adopts, but please contact me.
----you are not allowed to create an offspring for an existing hound. Once a crystal tear is formed, it is hidden and abandoned, they are not 'raised.' if you would like to adopt a new hound and say it was the offsring of your existing one, that's alright :)
2.)Fossilhounds have no internal organs and no genitalia. This means no 'private parts.'
Please do not sexualize them. They are genderless spirits, which means they don't have breasts or bulges.
----Although they maintain minimal magic abilities, they are not 'all powerful.' If you decide to roleplay them, please don't god-mod or make your hound unbelievably strong.
----common magic traits include Elemental magic relating to fire, water, earth, air, ice, light, dark, lunar and solar. Every hound has the ability to use a "glamour" (make themself invisible).
3.)please do not draw hounds with 'riding gear' being worn. It is canonically unacceptable and may weaken the bond a hound has with it's guarded.
4.)try to refrain from using the 'i left/lost/was betrayed by my guarded' trope in writing/roleplay/etc. it is a very uncommon occurrence that is only used when it is absolutely necessary. If you would like to include this trope in your hound's backstory, contact me and we may be able to work something out :)
5.)If you adopt a hound as a Fossilhound, please don't convert it to a Corrosive. It is a very rare occurrence, and Corrosives will eventually be up for adoption.
6.)If you no longer want your hound, please return it to me. I will make sure the bab gets a good home. Please don't re-sell them. I am open to discussing the transferring of a hound from one person to another, but please don't do it without asking me
7.)If you frequently use your hound as a character, please credit me for the species at least once on your page or occassionally on art. ;u; i would love to see what you guys do with them, and it also prevents people from making their own.
8.)please don't own more than 3 ;u; i'd like to make it possible for others to own one, and if you grab a lot of them it's not fair to others who would like one. please be respectful ;u;
9.)There are currently 3 Overseers. these are the 'admins' of the Fossilhound community. please listen to and respect them. We are Kalikoi Amethystblueeyes and OrbitingDawn . we have worked together making this possible, if we tell you something is wrong/needs to be changed, please take our advice.
10.)DO NOT WHITE KNIGHT. if you see something being mistreated in terms of my species, please come to me so i can take care of it. do not take matters into your own hands.
Please take these rules into consideration ;u; it was a leap of faith for me to start opening up this species to others <3
There will likely be additions/changes to this as time progresses, but for now, this is what I got! :)
