for any unaware, Rogers, Telus and Bell are starting to roll out Gigabit Internet starting January/February, initially in and around major cities, and slowly over the next year or so expanding outwards until most of Canada is covered.
as far as i am aware it is all Fiber Optic end-to-end (you will have a Fiber Optic cable directly into your house)
idea is to have as much of Canada covered as possible, but the furthest outlying areas may only see the service in little over a year.
the exact details vary by ISP, and while all 3 have said they want coast to coast gigabit coverage ETA for specific areas has not been announced, only that its starting Jan/Feb and that they hope to have most areas covered within the year
* maximum download of a Gigabit line is about 125MB/s
** at this moment the maximum upload is said to be 12.5MB/s (100Mbps)
