Try the endless series. They have three (last time I checked) and all three are fun and addicting. Endless legend has turn based combat mixed with 4x, so it's fun building armies and smashing them into the enemy. And I mean building, detail is very personalized and fun. Banner Saga is turned base and kinda fun to play through if you enjoy the drama. The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky is a JRPG that looks promising (and on sale right now in steam). I will agree though... the Strategy genre is very bare bones at the moment. Not many people are interested in it or have the time to spend hours planning the next move haha. If you do find a hankering for RTS, check out Supreme Commander Forged Alliance. It still has an active community and a friendly one to boot! definitely worth a shot there ^.^

The Fallen Enchantress games are pretty similar, and pretty good. Kind of a cross between Warcraft 3 and FF: Tactics.

Codename STEAM. It's a 3DS title that's a turn-based, Tactical, 3rd person shooter taking place in a Steampunk world, and you are led by Abraham Lincoln.

Ever tried Bravely Default for the 3DS? I hear it's a good'un, Squeenix turn-based JRPG, haven't tried it yet but ONE DAY.

I know this pain all too well. Even went and dug up a copy of Tactics A2 not too long ago to try and relive it.

The devil survivor serie is also a great choice if you have a ds or a 3ds. I only played the 1st one, but the mood and story is really cool with a few branching path, the tactic needed is real and each character on the map is already a team of character(a human leader and 2 summonable monster pokemon style). The best game of that kind I played in a long time!
