Well... the scanners at my university are generally pretty good. I will have to check the model when I return. I am pretty sure it is Epson brand. Perhaps one of the Epson Perfection series advertised on their website. I'm guessing the Epson Perfection v550 or higher

I have an HP 5510 All-in-One, other than a no-black ink issue, it works well to scan traditional art with. I found very pale colors will not show from time to time, but that's a minor thing. HPs are great, but their tech support is useless.

Yea, I would still work with my old HP if I found a way to make it work on Win7.

Durability and image quality, the Canon LiDE series, stuff in pack with laptop.

However, their support for new versions of OSX is atrocious. They want you to buy a new one.

The massive Epson professionals are still what we use at work.

I was looking at both LiDE and Epson Professionals and I found one big advantage in Epsons - that it can scan almost in 3D, as I read in reviews. I often scan works that aren't entirely flat or just wrinkled watercolours and then I spend a lot of time tring to fix them in Photoshop but it still looks bad.
Wanted to go with Canon first because of the low price x3333

Nie mam specjalnego doświadczenia ze skanerami, bo miałam (mam) tylko jeden? Ale jak prawie każdy znajomy narzeka/narzekał na swój, tak ja jestem moim zachwycona. : D po szybkiej obróbce skanu mam efekt bardzo zbliżony do oryginalnej pracy. Model Perfection v37

Poszukałam po internetach i faktycznie wychodzi na to, że ten Epson najlepszy. Czytałam też o Canonie LiDE ale on sobie nie radzi za dobrze ze skanowaniem niekompletnie płaskich przestrzeni więc to by mi przeszkadzalo. Chociaż tani, Epson jakies 200zł droższy.

^ odgapiłam skaner od Jagi i też jestem zadowolona. Wcześniej miałam jakiegoś plusteka i skanery w urządzeniach wielofunkcyjnych (HP, brother) - nie umywały się do epsona.

Poszukałam co tam teraz jest najlepsze na rynku i faktycznie Epsony przodują. Canon tani ale podobno nie skanuje dobrze niekompletnie płaskich powierzchni więc dla mnie odpada.

I use a Canon LIDE flatbed, and I think they have drivers for win7. not sure, though. you might have to look for a newer model. scanning quality is nice, even with pencils, though it needs a bit fiddling.

another scanner I use when I'm at a con, is a Genius CP-SF600 tug-in scanner. cost me 60€ a few years back, the driver is okay and easy to work with, and uses TWAIN32.
scanning uality is very good, most pencil drawings need but a bit of working with lightness/contrast, because for whatever reasons there is always a slightly lighter streak down the length... and the scanner tends to tug in so you always have a black edge at the top. but it's not much. a bit of a nuisance if you wanted the whole page, though...
Genius also have flatbed scanners in A4 and even A3, but they aren't cheap.

Indeed I was looking at LiDE but then I read in some reviews that it doesn't scan well not entirely flat surfaces. Epson scan in almost 3D so I will save myself some nerves trying to scan wrinkled watercolours or any other "fat" work(after all I even scan rocks, every now and then ;3 ).

A scanner for cons, sounds useful. But first I would probably have to invest in a car to be able to carry more things to a con^^. Thanks for your help.
