Looking Behind/ Looking Ahead
So in a few hours, it’ll be time to say goodbye to 2015.
As far as years go, 2015 was a major improvement to 2014, which was long, horrible and emotionally draining.
----Looking Behind: Successes----
In 2015, I got a new job, not in my field, but a big improvement from my previous job, and way less stressful. Consequently I was finally able to start giving my artwork the attention it deserved. I doubled down on my digital approach, and I’ve been collecting more resources for improvement. I’ve got ways to go, and as always I’m open to suggestion and criticism. (But no, I will not draw your fox for free I’m afraid.) http://www.furaffinity.net/view/18663866/ Is a quick look at a few of my favorites from the year.
October was also the launch of my Patreon page. It needs tweaks and adjusting, but it has been successful so far, but I’ve done it a poor service in how I’ve been publicizing it. As of December the campaign broke the first Milestone goal, and have gotten some neat prompts through it.
It was also my first time at AC, and I met a lotta cool people. It was last minute, and I was hardly coherent, but worth it in the end. I met a lot of cool people from the fandom, both in real life and over the internet. Even if you’re imaginary animal people, it’s awesome to know all of ya.
----Looking Behind: Failures ----
Not everything was perfect this year, and some of those failures need to be mentioned with the successes. There are plenty of areas I’ve not resolved, or need more work.
Traditional Artwork: I still haven’t the time or the space to create traditionally, on the scale I used to. I began a major Oil painting series to continue where I left with Requiem and Fides back in August, and while seven were begun, only one was finished. It’s a juggling act, and It’s something I am still working on.
Original Material: My original works have suffered as well, more of my character designs are pushed back. Age’s redesign is still in the works, and the others are very far behind. I have WIPS stretching back to 2013 that aren’t finished, and the folder’s grown to about 90 pieces I want to get to. I finished about 150~ pieces counting things that aren’t published, and patreon pieces, but there are at least twice that much that died on the operating table.
Commission Timetable: Something I’m struggling with even after reducing my queue numbers, adjusting my prices and increasing communication speed, my production speed hasn’t increased. My personal philosophy has always been to get it right, not fast. It is a flaw I’ve been working with for years, but it’s something I am working on improving.
----Looking Ahead: Goals----
I’m hoping this year to devote more time to my artwork, my goals for this year are a greater range of subjects, more media and style improvements. I’m still unsatisfied with my digital inking ability, and I want less rigidity in my compositions.
Patreon is getting an overhaul sooner, rather than later, as well as a few special things in store, this spring is my 10th anniversary posting online and I’m sure there’s something related to that in the works.
So as 2015 fades in to 2016, I hope you all have a wonderful new year, and had a great holiday season. Thank you all for your support, and for all your comments. It’ll be an excellent year of the monkey, I’m sure.
