Getting a Job 101 [Your Parents and You] [Also a Rant]
General
Anyone else have parents who are stuck in their own timeline and expect everything to be running exactly the same way as when they got into their profession? It's it just a painful experience?
My parents keep getting on my ass to contact my last job and get hired because I got good money. (Little less than 11 dollars an hour, pretty good for the cost of living here.) I keep trying to explain to them that company is BAD, and they will NOT hire me, I'd have to go through the temp agency because they want to 'save money'(Cut as many corners as possible to send out shitty parts that continue to come back and lose them customers to which they then blame the workers, not themselves for cutting corners), which would put me at minimum wage, 8.14? An hour. Just a few dollars short, sure, but NOT ENOUGH MONEY what so ever for the shit they put you through. Hell, almost 11 dollars an hour was hardly enough to pay for the shit they put their workers through.
And my parents are like no no they'd definitely hire you, you have experience, you're just dragging your feet!
Oh golly, it's not like I worked for these people for a year, it's not like I KNOW how they work or anything.
Oh Percy, you're just being lazy, blahblahblah.
Today's offense is what prompted this rant journal tho. Dad managed to get in contact with someone who knows a guy who knows a gal who walks the dog of some fella who heard rumor from the grape vine THAT a funeral home was taking in apprentices. So he talks to my mom, gives her instructions on what to tell me, etc, they hang up- she wakes my ass up.
(Now I'm ngl, I'm known to stay up till 6AM and sleep in till 4PM, yolo), so now I'm half dead to the world and moms like YOU NEED TO CALL THIS FUNERAL HOME RIGHT NOW THE SOONER THE BETTER YOU'LL GET HIRED.
So I call, and the funeral director is like, '...Who are you and who is the person who wanted you to contact me?'
Queue the most awkward moment of my life trying to explain to a stranger that another stranger gave me her information to get a job that I'm not fully sure is available.
Come to find out, the stranger only knew her DAD who was supposed to inform her, but since I'm known to sleep in, the ball wasn't really rolling that fast. So now I'm just thinking, why is calling earlier better? Like what if I was informed about this at 2PM? My calling them ASAP would be at 2PM, and I guarantee no one is sitting on the other side of the phone like, 'GOLLY, I bet they were told this at 8AM and they dragged their feet to call me. Time to never hire this person ever!'
No one thinks this. Ever.
Also no company thinks, 'Gosh this person literally calls us every single day, they must really want this job, time to hire them!'
No they probably think, 'Wow this person has absolutely NO patience, time to never hire them.' ...And yet my refusal to call is just me being lazy. (I had 10 different numbers to call back when I was trying really damn hard to get my first job. Would have been more but I had stores refuse to give a number because they didn't want me to call, then I had companies ask me to PLEASE STOP CALLING THEM)
NOT TO MENTION, 90% of stores these days do all their applications ONLINE, so me driving to the nearest city to ask for applications always ends in, 'We have applications online.'
Oh good so happy I could drive 30 minutes in and 30 minutes out to be told exactly what I know, but my parents refuse to hear :y
*Sits at Starbucks filling applications out on my phone, waiting a few hours before going home so my parents think I was in and out of ALL THE STORES*

FA+

The Damn older generation though, Lord have mercy xmx I hope you're all good now?
Now hire me and give me money.
I hope everythings still going well tho!
Thank you, I've been at my store for two years now and I've not once thought 'ugh work' in the morning as in, actually dread it and it was actually my supervisor who pushed me to get the help I needed for my mental health, so I'm pretty lucky to be honest. It was also through my manager that my hubby got a job too. :3
TLDR parents suck and jobs are stupid.
No matter how long you're out, no matter how many applications you flash (Though the numbers are dwindling since EVERYTHING IS ONLINE but somehow that doesn't count because if you're on the computer applying for something, the parents see that as being online and dicking around), no matter how many numbers you write down, you're still not trying hard enough.
I'm so sorry to hear that jobs being fucky tho u~u
It's all so annoying when it's like "I'm trying really hard to get a job." Well all your siblings have jobs, that were handed to them and the person. Who hired them won'the hire you for some fuck all reason, when I was young I got a job at 15 to help out with bills, you'really just being lazy." "YEAH but when you were 15 things worked different, there were actually jobs to be had."
It's annoying how many people ARE AGREEING WITH US and yet the parents are still like nah we're right. Y'all just lazy.
I am so desperate to get a new job, so my parents will get off my ass about it, their despair is becoming mine and I'm very worried this will affect the way I present myself in job interviews and such.
And I really do hope this all to end really soon, bc if I do poorly on my job bc of parents' pressure I would rather just become a hermit right now :c
But good luck! I know you'll find a job real soon.
And as for your parents, I don't know if talking to them would help clear some things up?
It's the beggining of the year, so the chances of finding a job that is not temporary is raised, I bet!
I hope you have a nice week!
There is no reasoning with them xD But thank you regardless, luck to you as well!!
But just keep applying online to things and turn up to the interviews that you are called in for, and be remembered.
please lemme know if i can do anything for you ;___; you have my best wishes and I heart you 💕
i hope you can find a job you actually like that can also placate the 'rents ;; *snug*
