TGIF Jan. 8th Paw-Post!

General
Thank you to all for the Watches, Favourites and great comments!
*growf!*Happy Friday all! More so for me this time as I'm now rid of my on-call pager. XD So for the most part, folks are okay with the comment stuff going away - I still feel bad about that, but it does help with streamlining. And folks enjoyed the music add-on! So I'll keep that going. Again, feel free to add your own suggestions too; I enjoy finding new music! XD
So here we go with today's - again a reminder that after 10am EST, I will include any new posted content in the next Paw-Post, not this one.
TC's Random Music Pick
Jimi Hendrix - "Voodoo Chile": http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2x6ugpIt is astonishing to believe that this song is nearly half a century old. Jimi Hendrix was certainly one of the most important (if not the most important) people to shape music in the 20th century. This song is widely regarded as the birth of Heavy Metal, and if you don't first hear it - listen to the part between about 1:56 to 2:28, and you hear the screaming guitar riffs that defined the 1970s clear through to the 1990s as far as Metal goes. This song was raw, passionate and an intensely powerful new form of music that shocked the people of the 1960s. Rock had been largely very clean and hoppy-bobby in sound, but when Hendrix entered the scene, he brought rhythm and blues, soul and jazz and fused it into a wild new kind of sound. His band was one of the first to start actually doing something with the bass guitars - having them play their own melody rather than just booping up and down from simple chords. He also pioneered many of the effects used on electric guitars today - like distortion pedals. He let the guitar "sing" as much as he did, and it changed rock and roll forever. All this time later, this song still sounds amazing, and you can still hear it nearly daily on the radio if you flip through any of the rock channels. :)

Artist Highlight:
TideKeeper!(TC) Interestingly enough, it was a non-paw picture that first made me discover TideKeeper's art - a beautiful, emotional piece of a Charr and Asura (here: https://www.weasyl.com/submission/1.....n-flixwind-2). Didn't take long to discover he was a masterful artist and had quite a thing for including huge, digitigrade paws on his work. He is also a SUPER nice guy, and in getting to talk, we have certainly exchanged many a long e-mails on character races, backgrounds, ideas and so on. He's very passionate about the characters he draws, and it shows beautifully in his work. So sit back and get to know a little better who TideKeeper is, and where he stands on paws and art in general!

Work Commentary Preferences:
I don't mind most stuff so long as it's not incredibly explicit; i.e., I don't mind hearing if you enjoyed something erotic, but please don't go into details better shared with your lover. ;3 Comments mean a lot to me -- please don't be afraid to talk to me! And constructive criticism is welcome on anything except for commissions!
Some (live) Q&A(TC) Thanks for being willing to sit down and answer some questions for the Paw-Post. As one of it's more avid readers, does it feel weird to be on the receiving end of one of these? :P
(TK) A little -- but a very good kind of weird. I feel honored to be asked to do this, honestly. :D
(TC) Hey, it's us who are honoured to have talented artists like you willing to do this! So as it should not surprise anyone on the Post, your art features some very amazing looking footpaws. Are they something that you have any interest in yourself?
(TK) Absolutely. I've always been fonder of nonhuman feet than human ones, be they paws or claws or talons. They've always been more fun for me to draw, more pleasing to my eye -- I've developed a keener fondness for them in recent years, but I've always enjoyed their look.
(TC) Are there specific things you like about them; paw type, sole-type, scent or not, texture, etc.?
(TK) It depends, really. With leonine/canine feet, I enjoy the shape of the padding and the toes, the claws; with reptilian/saurian feet, I like how the different textures can play along the shapes of the foot itself. I tend to have a preference for digitigrade sorts, but can appreciate pretty much any sort of setup. I have more of a visual/tactile interest than scent, though -- I like the look and/or feel primarily, not so much about the scent (except maybe for freshly bathed..?).
(TC) Very detailed answer! So digitigrade (or C4 and C5 types) are your favourite to work with and see. Is there one particular type you like best?
(TK) Haha well... I'm definitely partial to quasi-leonine and saurian (theropod) feet, I'd say. They're the most fun to draw, in any case. :3 It's hard to say which between the two is my favorite... Dinosaur feet are always a joy to draw, but I'd probably have to go with the quasi-leonine.
(TC) What about human feet - does that enjoyment of them translate much into real life?
(TK) I don't dislike them, and can definitely appreciate them on their own merit, but I'm nowhere near as fond of them. If it counts, I sometimes enjoy comparing anatomy between human and nonhuman feet: differences in metatarsals, where the ankle joint sits in the leg, things like that. I'm weird.
(TC) Heh, no you're awesome. :P Alright, so back to your characters - the quasi-leonine characters you draw so much of are amazing. You've created a whole bunch of neat races along with your lovely Semekord - can you tell us a quick overview of some of them?
(TK) The main two would have to be the Raskei and the Maelin -- they're probably the closest to my heart, as might be a little apparent (since I draw them so much, haha).
The Raskei are the ones with the quasi-leonine feet; they come in three subtypes, with small physical differences to distinguish them -- at first glance they might look mostly human or elfin, but a glance toward their tails or feet reveals otherwise. They have fairly similar societies and cultures to humankind, and can coexist rather peacefully (for the most part).
The Maelin are the saurian-footed ones, green-skinned and multi-tailed. They're from a world where reptile-like mammals became the dominant species, and the entire known population lives in a vast walled city; theirs is a rigid caste system centralized around a gladiatorial lifestyle -- one's place in society is dependant on their ability to survive.
(TC) And both are amazing looking, I think. Anyone looking at your art will note pretty quickly you're very good at expression and emotion - in fact the first picture I ever saw of yours was a charr and an asura, and remains the most touching such image I've ever seen. You really seem to put your heart into the characters when you draw. Is that how you get such great emotional conveyance?
(TK) It might be.. With characters I know deeply (such as my own and Semekord's, for example), I feel a strong connection with them, and it becomes easier for me to visualize things like expressions, emotions while I draw -- because often I find myself understanding, empathizing, at least to some degree. I try to do that with all my work -- it's part of the reason I like to know a character's personality before I try to draw them. It gives me a better sense of how they might think/feel/carry themselves in different scenarios/circumstances. It's something that's important to me -- I like to try and "capture" their spirit a little, to represent them the best that I possibly can, to show them as alive and feeling, with histories and lives all their own. :)
(TC) I really like that - I've always thought of characters as being their own "souls", so to speak, so that's a very beautiful way to put it. :) You also do epic hair on your characters! It's so alive and flowing - does that come easy to you ('cause trying to draw hair is a curse for me)?
(TK) Haha, thank you! :'D Hair kind of depends a little -- different textures are done different ways, and some are more...forgiving than others for mis-strokes on the canvas, as it were. (Curls~!!) For the most part, yes -- it's a flowing and organic thing to draw; the less I try to "script" the hair itself, the better it seems to behave for me as I try to render it. It's one of the more fun parts to do on a character; the way I do it now is MUCH easier than how I used to render hair a few years back, and I'm much happier with how it turns out now, too. :3
(TC) Scripting hair... now that's an interesting way to think of it. Do you draw traditionally and translate to digital, or is it all digital... or both?
(TK) I can still do things traditionally, but these days everything is done digitally from start to finish. I've gotten a little too used to that handy ctrl+Z function for my own good, haha... It's actually been a while since I've done any purely traditional work, come to think of it...
(TC) When it comes to the sort of commissions you get, is there a particular type you really love doing? You know - theme, character or content-wise?
(TK) Haha, well... I'm always happy to get something with a bit of romance involved (because I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff). I really really enjoy getting to do concepts for new characters -- coming up with designs for characters and creatures is something I've always really loved to do. And merfolk! Don't get me started on merfolk, haha... I also really enjoy getting to draw creepy things! Monsters, skulls, scary teeth, all that sort of thing. And of course, paws of all shapes! :D
(TC) Make sure you note that down everyone. ;) Alright so other end of that; is there anything you -don't- particularly like drawing?
(TK) Hmm... There's some stuff that I'll draw that I don't enjoy as much, and stuff I dislike to the point that I won't draw it at all. Pretty much anything on my "will not draw" list falls into that latter category, haha.. But as for dislikes -- nonorganic backgrounds. Architecture, structures, vehicles...those give me some trouble, so I sort of grumble inwardly a little as I draw them, haha. But at the same time, they can sometimes be a fun challenge; it depends on how intricate or precise the design is, really.
(TC) Alright then - typical last question - is there anything you'd like to say to the folks on the Paw-Post?
(TK) Thanks so much for letting me be a part of this awesome community, I truly appreciate it! I've met so many kind and talented folks here -- and I hope to keep that trend going! Thanks to everyone who's stopped by my page to say hello, or to peek at my work! May you all have a happy and paw-filled 2016! :3
Thank you TideKeeper! Certainly one of the more epic Q&As! So everyone, please go have a look through his huge and amazing gallery of stuff. Whether it's paw stuff, or just hard-hitting emotional, beautiful art, you will certainly find no lack of it there. Have a good weekend everyone!

Diablo's Most Pawesome was a definite instant fave. ^^ I love that so much. Fun feature as usual too! TideKeeper is one of the growing number of artists I've discovered and started watching through the Paw Posts. ^^
And yeah, that was a really, really easy choice for Most Pawesome. XD
TK is such a nice guy! Was very fun doing the interview with him, and it all happened sort of spur-of-the-moment when I caught up on one morning. ^_^
I rather like Eldiman's feature -- the posing and expression are wonderful, plus he's got lovely colouring -- always a plus! :D Gotta dig that crisp, shiny look. :3
Thank you so much for the highlight! It was a lot of fun to do, and it's an honor to be asked to do something like this! :'D
*flaily arms*
*snickers* I know, honestly I'm just as bad when I make those place holders. Cari was just SUCH a presence in these for so long, how can I not? :)
Really like Eldiman's stuff - hasn't been as much of late as in the past, but very clean lines, great details.
Haha, true! And I'm sure it's not going to be too long before those placeholders come back into use, eh? ;3
It sure seems that way.. I might just need to add them to my watch list..~
And yeah, I think he's worth watching. Like I said, he doesn't crank out stuff quite as often as he used to, but it's generally quite good and often features very nice paws.
I can certainly see that! Hopefully we'll see some more of his work in future entries..? :3
