Status update: What's coming next…
Welcome to my mind.
Okay, so this is going up a day later than I'd hoped, but here's what's been going on, and what I'll be working on for the near future, specifically up to the end of the year.
So, a few quick status updates. Novel! It's done! At least the rough draft is. I've only been talking about writing a novel since first grade, and I succeeded, so yay! Now I've just got to rewrite it, get an editor, and figure out this self-publishing and self-advertising thing, yay! This is a huge milestone for me, and even though I've got a lot of work to do on it, it's been one of my life goals for a long time. Let's see, what else? Um, I moved! Yeah, I've moved and I'm in a new place, been here for almost two weeks now and I love it. Got three roommates, only one of whom is a baby fur, and the other two are varying degrees of okay but aren't in on it, so that makes for an interesting balancing act. Working on a job/source of income, I'll come back to that shortly. It's a big change and transition, but it's a good one. It also distances me slightly from one of my major stress sources, so that's a good thing.
And yes, this is why I've been so quiet the past few months, I've been spending most of my energy writing and moving/getting ready for the move. Fortunately, I didn't have to deal with any nameless play productions this year, so I was also able to get some sleep.
So, let's see, list of things.
Item 1: my novel! At 301 pages and 191,600 words, the rough draft is a little longer than I originally anticipated. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. For the immediate moment, I'm going to put it to one side for a few weeks and work on other projects, to let it settle in my head. I will be writing an outline of planned changes and where the story is going from here and other stuff like that, before I get started on draft 2. But the plan is to have a finished version of the book ready for publishing by the end of the year, as well as an outline for the future volumes.
Item 2: my other novel! Okay, so, not a novel, but in all seriousness, I've got a bunch of story ideas I want to work on, so I'm also going to work on my children's book series concept this year. I'd like to have one of those books done by the end of the year, and possibly a second based on how much time it takes to write it.
Item 3: work! Job, jobs, commissions, whatever, I'll be doing a lot more of this soon too. Got a lot more bills to take care of. This does unfortunately mean that my time is going to be even tighter, between writing and working, but I'm sure I can make it all work. And yes, commissions! They will be opening very soon, and I'm going to use these partially as an exercise in improving my writing speed and skills. So, I'll put up a journal in the next few days to announce these being open. Still ten bucks per thousand words.
Item 4: drawing! It's been a long time, but I want to do this again. Milo's been encouraging me to draw more, so I'm going to be doing sketching and doodles and stuff on a more frequent basis. No guarantees on digital art, I've never been that good at it, but we'll see what sort of stuff I'll be doing. If I get good enough, I might even do requests or commissions eventually, who knows?
Item 5: cons! Are not happening. Sorry, anyone who was hoping to meet me out there in the big world (there might be, like, one of you), but I am not going to any cons for the foreseeable future. This is a combination of multiple factors, including a lack of time, money, and honestly not having much fun at the past few cons I've gone to. And no, this has nothing to do with the RainFurrest controversy, I'd reached this decision before that stuff really started blowing over. I am hoping to do some traveling and trips in the future, just none of them will be to cons.
Item 6: exercise! I want to lose some weight, so I'm gonna start walking again, and be more careful with my food intake. Which should be easier, since I'm now on a tighter budget. Goodbye eating at Wingstop every week, hello ramen packs. Not that I ate at Wingstop once a week, that would be gross, but the point still stands.
Item 7: With all those ho ho ho's and him knowing where the naughty girls live, it's no surprise Santa Claus is cuming to town.
That is all.
