Just a follow up journal to let you all know the recovery went smoothly. Took only like 30 minutes.

Grats, most of my fix-it jobs end up taking me a whole day to get back to operational/normal status.

OP
surprisingly the largest hurdle was the Win7-SP1-x64 update. Which is a 900mb download + installation....USH thankfully it only took like 10 minutes.

Good bandwidth. My wireless router is about 2mb/sec at its best, even 802.11ac

Yeah, there's some way to build recovery media for Win7 (et al) that rolls in all current updates, but I forget what it's called. You probably have no option this time to use that, but the utility builds install media on a USB (or ISO if you really prefer). Then you just re-update it when you see there are new patches to the OS. It's damned handy to install an OS that doesn't have a full days' worth of updates to do once it's installed.

If Linux could even run Windows apps as well as Parallels Desktop for mac. OS X and Linux have a LOT in common - both are *nix based.
