I'm no artist, but you should look around for artists that are:

1. Open for ref sheet type commissions

2. Either say they are okay helping design stuff from text description, or at least don't say "must have ref sheet".

3. Have a style you like, and probably have work that shows they have done dragons before.

A good artist who is open to help design things should appreciate a lot of detail in your description. If you have examples of certain features those can also really help. However, the artists style will have a huge effect on the end product regardless. The best thing to do is to ask and be polite. Also remember to be patient!

Thanks for the pointers Froogle! There are a few artists that I really like the style of. I will have to contact them to see if they would be comfortable working from text descriptions and to find out if/when they would be available for commission.

In the mean time, I will be looking for features from existing arts that fit my vision of my 'sona.
