If you take commissions for a living-
Please PLEASE for the love of God-
Set up a small savings, and add to it slowly.
So you have funds to replace shit that breaks!
Tablet computer pens whatever it may friggin be!!
Have that cushion!!!
Instead of Emergency commissions on YOUR equipment
BE responsible and have a savings to replace the sole thing you
Are trying to survive by!!
Even more so if it's your only income! How could you risk being OUT of work!?
When you coulda put $5-$10 away a week or something you can manage.
To cover those replacements!
Sorry this just really blows my mind
Think of it as job insurance, knowing you have that saved JUST Incase!!

Haven't since then but life is so damn busy... I hate it so I agree~
We get car insurance, house insurance, medical insurance, all stuff that helps us pay for things.
Just kills me to see "emergency commissions" left an right on stuff I feel could have been completely avoided by having that spare saving just for replacing broken stuff. .-.
Not everyone is as lucky. I know a few arists that if there shit broke they'd be completely 100% screwed but its not their fault.
Even more so when it's a constant struggle, talking month after month, not just a lul in income one month.
Sadly real life bills come first an a job that can cover those should as well.
Not trying to knock anyone from their artist dreams surely, just surviving should be before anything else.
I have great work experience in management positions, but because I'm considered an immigrant not from the US, even with my green card, it's been a little harder finding someone to hire me. So I do art instead and graphics freelance, but just to supplement our finances.
So while I agree with what you say, and do it myself, sometimes you really can't help it when shit strikes.
But yeah, I've also seen some artists on here who toss up Help/Emergency journals like they're throwing skittles around. Some have lists of about a hundred people to refund, and are taking extra commissions to be able to refund those people because they took too long on their art, it's a nasty cycle which will just keep repeating into infinity. :(
I feel it's like that on here sometimes.. people just play emotions to get things done faster, when they don't even have a real emergency, while some are actually in hard need of cash. And I mean we can understand the latter, I'm sure we've all had situations where we were hard up for cash before.
It's really sad that people abuse other people's willingness to help.
