A private screening for Disney's next animated feature film Zootopia will be taking place on Saturday, March 5 at 9 p.m. at the CinemaWorld theater at Lincoln Mall in Lincoln, RI. They do not have a mask policy in regards to costumes, so fursuiters are allowed, and we are planning to have them in the theater itself.
Lincoln Mall is located at 622 George Washington Highway in Lincoln. It is at the intersection of Interstate 295 and Route 146. Please park in the back of the mall which is where the CinemaWorld theater is located.
The meeting place will be in the main lobby outside of the ticket booth at 9 p.m. Please do NOT wear your fursuit as you enter the building. There will be changing space made available inside. The movie will begin later that night, however, it is too far out to know when that will be.
Please be courteous to your fellow attendees, the theater staff and the general public who will be there.
PRICE: I am not announcing a price yet because the cost for renting a theater is a fixed amount. This means that if more people come, the price becomes less per person. I would suggest to be prepared to bring at the most $20 to cover for admission and snacks. (In the interest of full disclosure, the surplus money that has been accumulating from past furbowls is being used towards paying for this event. This was agreed upon by the attendees of RI Furbowl 46.)
SIGN-IN: Because the theater needs a head count about a month before the screening, I have set up a form for signing in. The link is here: http://goo.gl/forms/Xx5ioFjtJa Please fill out this form if you are certain that you will be able to make it on March 5. I will ask for your name and address and then check for identification when you arrive. I will close the form onSunday, February 7 Tuesday, March 1. There will be no walk-ins that night, so please make arrangements now to come and then sign in at the link provided.
PRIVATE ROOM: We will have a private theater and a party room available to us. The party room is intended as space for changing up and storing our things. If you are uncomfortable with changing up in the presence of others, there are private unisex restrooms and bathroom stalls in the public restrooms. Please be aware of others and the public if you have to dress down to your underwear in order to get into your fursuit.
FURSUITERS: All bags, boxes and backpacks are subject to be searched for alcohol and weapons. All costumes must be appropriate for a family-friendly environment. Please change up at the movie theater, not by your car or in the mall itself. It is recommended to remove your fursuit head during the movie for your safety and the courtesy of others. (You're restricting your own vision and hearing, you'll be uncomfortable wearing a fursuit head for almost two hours straight, and you'll block the view of the person behind you.) If your fursuit makes noise or has lights, please disable those devices during the movie. Do NOT go into the mall itself or any store while in fursuit. All fursuiting is limited to the areas of the theater lobby, the concession stand and the theater.
WHY SO LATE?: If you are wondering why we're getting a private screening at such a late showtime, there are two reasons for this: business and safety. Because this is a family film, most attendance (and money) will come from the afternoon matinee shows and the early evening shows. Those shows will make more money with 200 people rather than a private screening with 50 people. Also, if we attended an early screening in the middle of the day with twenty fursuiters, then A. There will be chaos everywhere with many families trying to get their time and pictures with our fursuiters and more importantly, B. The general public could mistake our fursuiters as being official characters from the film as though we are representatives from Disney and we don't want to create that confusion.
The meetup time is 9 p.m. in the theater lobby. You are free to come to the mall earlier for shopping or dinner. There are several restaurants outside the mall: Asia Grille (Chinese food), Chili's, Five Guys Burgers, McDonald's and Starbucks. Across the street is a Dunkin Donuts. Inside the mall are Papa Gino's, Subway and CW Lanes & Games. CW Lanes & Games has a restaurant and an arcade, and you are free to go there to play or eat before the show, but I recommend that all fursuiting stays strictly to the theater.
While this may be the only Zootopia movie meet with fursuiters in all of New England and we'd need as many people as possible to help bring the price per person down, I'm personally asking you to please do not go out of your way to come. This will be a late night showing that may end at about 11:30 p.m. If you'll need to drive at least an hour just to get there, please consider that you'll need time to drive back and it will be very late at night. For your safety, I have three suggestions: A. See the movie by yourself on your own time, B. Find another local movie furmeet that's closer to you (I would suggest Zac/Samhain's meet at Patriot Place in Foxboro that same night), C. Book a nearby hotel room for an overnight stay. There is a Courtyard next door to the mall and several smaller hotels in the area.
So please sign in now and tell your friends beforeFebruary 7 March 1. I'll see you at the movies, Zootopians!
