COMPUTER ISSUES[SOLVED]Thank you all for the fast feedback<3
10 years ago
Copy Pasting because I cannot seem to find any help regarding my issue
Stressing out really bad, someones computer I am using is having issues with internet connectivity and I know I haven't done anything but I'm trying to sort it all out just in case.
If anyone has any input or help me figure it out please please please help.
I have my laptop and his computer hooked up to the ethernet and my laptop isn't having issues so I've deduced that it's a problem with his. The internet runs fine at max speed as I ran the speedtest and both results are the same, yet anything that uses the internet drops out sporadically.
Windows 7
I've tried:
Updating ethernet drivers
Turned off power management on the ethernet properties
Reset IPs
Disabled antivirus
Looked for anything related to AMD quicktime
Removed my laptop from the router
Swapped out ethernet cords
windows ran in safe mode with networking, problem still persisist
I can't tell if it's his computer specifically or what. Using a Hitron (CGNM-2250-SHW) router as well and the lights on the ethernet is saying that its connecting to the 100 mbps while my laptop is getting the highest speed, 100/1000Mbps (yet this contradicts itself with the speed test results so I dunno what is up). Please guys, I really need the help.

Or if it has wireless, try that instead.
Switch ethernet ports to see if one of those are faulty.
Uninstall ethernet drivers completely and see if it finds any on it's own after restart.
Can you ping google or your router?
Tried releasing/rewnewing the IP?
Maybe a virus causing it. Check scans if nothing works.
Or try switching DNS.
I've tried different ethernet ports and different cables.
Going to try uninstalling the driver next, wanted to avoid uninstalling things until last (since its not my computer)
I've pinged google but cmd doesnt recognize google as a host, youtube worked though and no packets were lost.
Renewed the IP through cmd
Ran windows through safe mode and the problems still persist
Saving DNS for last too (same as the uninstalling thing)
If you're really unlucky, it could be the ethernet port on your motherboard that simply gave up.
But i wouldn't assume that until you've tried re-installing windows as a last resort.
Switching DNS is worth a try. Just use google's DNS 8.8.8.8 - 8.8.4.4 to see if that helps at all.
Try a ipconfig /flushdns too just in case.
Then hit properties and doubleclick the one on the list named TCP/IPv4 at the end.
There you should see DNS options.
Curious how it works out.
Hope it keeps working! ♥
If the internet continues to drop randomly, see if securing the ethernet cable a certain way would help. (like pushing and holding it in, up, down, etc.) If it stops dropping randomly, then maybe the contacts for the ethernet port went bad. Hopefully this is not the case.
Has the inside of the computer been cleaned? Sometimes the insides can get caked with dust that it would start to overheat and mess with the motherboard. The solder that holds the components together might be getting soft and getting loose.
Another guess would be that another device would be somehow interfering with the computer ability to connect properly, but since it's hooked up physically, the only way for that to happen would be the computer sharing the same IP as another device, but just in case, have you tried creating a static IP for the computer? My network is weird as hell and nothing can connect unless either the a static IP is set and/or the DNS is changed.
As far as what was mention above, I'm not sure what else could be causing this issue.
Ethernet cords are fine, especially the ports on the router.
I have not opened the guys computer up as I want to refrain from touching his stuff/uninstalling/installing stuff to his computer
I have changed the ip in hopes to fix the issue but it still isnt working :T
edit: accidently made new post. Sorry!
Was your old DNS statically assigned or was it set to automatic?
If it's set to automatic you could try an ipconfig /flushdns to see if that helps.
Failing that stick to a statically assigned DNS as you are.
