My experience with commissions has been that the work aspect of it took away the joy I felt from drawing. I personally don't do commissions anymore but I know a ton of people are fairly successful with it. I just wanted to make sure to point out that once you start taking money for art it adds a whole new aspect to it and I'd hate for you to run head first into this unprepared for that.
That being said I think you could easily sell your work. It might be slow at first since you're new here and don't have a ton of watchers. It takes a while to build up that foundation. I would totally help and promote your openings and I'm guessing some of your other friends would be willing to do so as well to bring more people in.
that was always my concern. i am not pursuing any kind of career in art for this reason, because i was afraid it would suck the fun out of like, the only thing i like to do.
i just, im in school and i need extra $$ and commissions could be fun if i pace myself and if i dont do them back to back to back to back to back.
thank you for the offer, i will keep it in mind !
I'd say start off with some small YCH auctions/Autobuys with limited spots to see if you like it! I'd also DEFINITELY start out with adoptables, theyre an easy way to make money (especially with the art already made, all they do is buy the thing and leave with an unwatermarked picture/ref)
There is more to life than money! But there are also hard limits to what you can do without any. If you decide to charge for drawings, I think you should not go taking on 100 tasks at once like some people do. It may be a while before you figure out how many you can handle in what period and what price is fair for you.
I literally just started watching you and I really love your style. I think you should hone your talents to whatever you like be it display art or commissions. It's up to you, but there's no harm in earning money.
Perhaps instead of doing commissions, you could make adopts or do YCHs, might be a safer avenue until you get used to the idea as Sinni suggested.
ty for the kind words!!
yeah i was really considering doing some c h e a p YCHs
as far as characters go i literally have like 6 that ive actually made myself, designing is HARD
i fall in love with all the characters i make so adopts would be super hard :, )
I can relate with you there XD I seem to make endless amounts of characters and I never want to let them go but money is a necessity and it sucks! If you're worried about adopts, perhaps just do YCH's ^^
