"Better be safe than sorry". I have said that to someone last year. He had a lot of unprotected fun with people he said he trusted. But trust does not protect you from infections! Just some minutes of fun can ruin your whole life. Now he is very, very, very sorry. He was recently tested positive for HIV.
What even bothers me most is, that the potential person, who infected him, does not even care. He refuses to get tested and continues to have unprotected fun with other furries. Don't be dumb. Protect your own health! You are worth it! An infection like this is something final as it cannot be undone.

Okay this happens all around, but putting blind trust on even your trusted friends in this case, especialy at cons, is taking a huge risk.
It is like going to a gay sauna, club, bar, dungeon and going all unprotected. I know enough people who are just stupid and trust that the manager of the place make sure everyone has been tested.
