No, milk is not good for ANY animal.. they can't digest it and it'll give them diarrhea. Same for Oatmeal.. do you see dogs eating oatmeal in the wild? Nope.. They are still kinda too young to eat solid foods... you can get some puppy formula at WalMart or something and soak some puppy food in it and try giving that to them or try some wet puppy food that you can get in the cans at the store. ^^

Milk, I can understand, since it's not pure milk straight from the cow and such. But I wasn't there when she made it, so I couldn't stop her.
As for oatmeal... Actually, we've searched this. Everyone says oatmeal is good for dogs, specially pregnant/nursing dogs. It has nutriants and stuff she needed and just dog food wasn't cuttin it. She'd finish eating, then the pups would feed and she'd be sickly skinny again. And she's given huge ammounts a day.
And we didn't really make the oatmeal for the pups. but the one ran over tehre and burried her nose in before we could point her in the right direction.... lol.

for adult dogs, they can eat about anything(except chocolate, of course) but puppies can't.. their digestive system doesnt really kick in til they are about 18 months to 2 years old and they will have bad diarrhea and vomiting.

Milk isnt good.. not from a cow, horse, cat, goat, pig, nothing.. because its not DOG milk and therefore their bodies can't handle it, its bad to give a cat milk and it's the same for a dog.

As for your momma dog being skinny.. she will be. Nursing puppies suck everything out of a mom but don't worry. Just keep feeding her normally and the puppies should be beginning to get weened soon and she'll be able to keep more weight on her but, again, don't worry... it won't kill her no matter how skinny she may look to you. ^^

ah, okay, yeah. that makes sense. next time she won't be fed with the puppies, then. and I'll make sure theres no milk next time.

Well, her being skinny has worried me, cause she's skinny to begin with, and now you can see all her bones as if we starve her. And then theres the fact she cowers when we try to put her back in with them. I thought this was due to them overfeeding or something...

no.. its dairy.. not good for them.

Our coonhound didn't like being put back with her puppies either.. them teething was hurting her poor sore nipples and she wanted a break. It's good to have the mom away for awhile.. let her get a break(wolves in the wild would leave the pups fo several hours while they hunted). The pups wont starve for her being away from them for 4-6 hours.. but anything longer is bad and she helps keep them warm and clean.

Just keep feeding her and showing the puppies wet dog food to help them get weened from her. =)

thought so. lol. I just had to make sure I wasn't passing it off cause they pissed me off. XP

that could be it. but she's let out for hours each time. maybe she's just over sore or something. when I get some puppy food, I'll let her out for longer. Oh, when will they start needing water? lol.

and, last question for tonight, how long will she be bleeding for? she's still bleeding and it's starting to worry me. it's not a lot, but theres still big drops a few times a day...

ok but as for your questions... You can put a small bowl with water in it already in the pen and see if they drink. You can leave it in there with them, mind you they will probably knock it over alot so place it on a towel or something, but it wont hurt them. =) If she is still having some vaginal bleeding now, i'd call the vet. That shouldnt be happening 4 weeks afterwards. Was this her first litter? =/ That would worry me too.

It is her first litter. I'll call a vet today but they'll probably tell me that they can't say unless they see her. and they've all got high prices.

That, unfortunately, is too true. I say give her 2 more weeks, if she is STILL bleeding... take her in.. she could have ripped herself. ^^ And by then if she DID rip herself she could heal up on her own anyway. =) Especially if its her first litter lol
